  • I dont get the "Urban Ruined Florida" aspect of this whole thing.

Urbans last year 2010: He didnt have a QB, its tough to win without one.

Muschamps First Year 2011: Team still didnt have a QB and had to learn a new coaching staff

This year 2012: Florida is number 2 in the BCS. Every RS Sophomore, Junior and Senior on the team was recruited by Urban. Almost every true Sophomore on the team was Urbans recruit as well, including the QB which commited to Urban.

Explain to me again how Urban left Florida in shambles?

To many people see two years of +/- 6 wins and just assume the program was ruined. College football is volatile. Players are only eligible for four years. No two years are the same personnel wise in college football due to graduation and leaving early for the draft. Its foolish to expect a team to dominate year after year. Down times occur.

Who's job was it to help develop the QB. It's Meyer. John Brantley was supposed to be a Heisman type of QB coming out of high school. The kid flopped. Florida's roster, talent wise, wasn't as strong as it was. Many high end recruits didn't live up to expectations. The cupboard was bare in Gainesville by Florida standards.

So these are all muschamps players that has them in the title hunt?
Why is it that PSU fans thought and hoped to have Meyer as there coach?

    mason01

  • Yep.

The bigger problem in Florida was the culture left by Urban. Its amazing Muschamp got their collective heads out of the gutter so quickly.

Interesting the players lost respect for Urban. Who knew a guy who got slapped around by Saban regularly would be a pushover??

Barking up the wrong tree there, as I'm pretty sure Hamilton was outspoken saying he didn't want Meyer from the get go.

I liked the idea, but after the things I've heard I'm glad he's not with us but in Columbus. We've ended up with the right coach for us, and OSU seems to have ended up with the right coach for them.

  • Here is what is going to happen. Urb is going to sell out to win a NC, he will fail and destroy the roster. While he is doing this he will start banging a cheerleader or two and his wife will fiend out and he will start having health problems again and half to leave.

Maybe....but better than what some coaches have done in the past...

The cheerleaders at OSU aren't nearly as attractive as those at UF.

Maybe he'll go all Petrino on us and get with a volleyball player?

just sayin'..... IF he burns out, or if he runs off with a cheerleader (or two) there are worse things....

It's funny that everyone thinks Urban is going to quit after a couple years....he's home...he grew up in Ohio, he's not going anywhere and that scares the heck out of some opposing fans because they know he is going to reconstruct the way the Big is doing business...teams will either keep up in recruiting, and paying their assistant coaches or they will get left behind...He has been given the committment of an open checkbook when it comes time to pay his coaches, and that will continue to help recruiting. How many of Tressels coaches ever moved up to a head coaching job? One or two in 11 years.....pretty bad...Urban will continue to bring in talented coaches that move on to head coaching jobs, thus making the next bright mind want to come work for him...That's how it's done in the SEC, that's why they have the name coaches...The Big 10 teams need to jump in if this conference is ever going to climb up to compete...The hiring of MAC coaches (Illinois) for example isn't going to bring the recruits in....

There's a couple hotties on the cheerleading squad this year...hope he picks one of them.

  • No need to go off like that, but I will say one thing people forget and that is what would be the situation right now if Cam Newton never left UF to go to C.C. then to Auburn? How would the team have been?

  • Not that long ago Urban was your fanbase's dream coach, now you want to take cheap shots at him. Jealous or....?

I do not think he was ever our dream coach...there were SO Many rumors floating around as to who the next coach would be including Meyer...a lot of the regular posters on here were not a fan of him. I am sure we are jealous..both teams are playing well and it should be a great game Saturday...

Auburn wouldn't have won the title. That is for sure.

Secondly, Newton violated FU's code of conduct three times, so keeping him would have given more ammo for people like us to attack Meyer even further. Think about it.

I can tell you there were quite a few on this board who didn't want a part of your dream coach ... its not hard to figure out why either.

No one is questioning Urban's ability to recruit great players. What people are questioning is his coaching ability and ability to manage those players. It sounds from this article that his management of his players caused issues. It is also worth pointing out that he's only ever succeeded when he had excpetional QBs (Tebow and Smith). He had numerous blue chip QBs after Tebow at UF but couldn't win.

They don't have anyone new on the UF roster this year. They are #2 because Muschamp has finally weeded out those that wouldn't fall in line and has gotten the rest to buy in to his system and he's finally coached up Driskel. Do you really think OSU would be doing as well this year if Braxton Miller was a wonderkid? His defense sucks royally, even though it is stocked with 4/5 star prospects. He's loaded with top RB prospects, but just like at UF, they don't have any running game outside of when their QB totes the rock.

It will be very interesting to see what happens in 2-3 years when Miller is no longer on the team. Very, very interesting. We all know Urban can't handle losing.

    nittanylionfan

  • He had one mediocre year? Also Carlos Hyde has gotten 100 yard games this year. And many people especially OSU fans wouldn't mind one bit if Guiton had to take over QB duties.
