I think there's a lot of truth to what edtee says. Our students do a great job supporting our football team - unless the weather is bad, or its a noon start, or its a game against a non-ranked opponent, or its a holiday weekend, or they're already drunk for a night game and can't get in. And then how many leave at half time - thousands upon thousands. In other words, they're the ultimate fair weather fans.
The students that care, get there early, cheer like crazy, make it hard for opposing teams to hear the signals, etc. do a great job. But as for their fair weather colleagues, I'm sorry if the game cuts into your busy party schedule.
Tens of thousands of people come from hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles and pay significant sums of money for the privilege of sitting in Beaver Stadium on a football Saturday. Thousands of our students couldn't be bothered.
Which leads to hoops - a good home crowd is worth 10 points easy in hoops. Students and locals can help make the BJC a really tough place to play. In fact, its a lot easier in hoops than in football to have a really positive effect. But our fair weather student and local fans demand a winner before they'll deign to come to a game.
The argument that we have no tradition is hollow. What tradition did Gonzaga have? How about UCONN until Calhoun showed up? How about VCU?
Right now we have one of the best point guards in the nation compiling amazing stats in games where he is almost always double teamed and we can't get students to show up. Well, it's your team and your fellow students.

Go check out the attendance during the year that we won the NIT. It was really good, especially once the new semester started. That is what you can expect with a winning team. I think Chambers will do a good job here and will get us winning, but let's be honest... this is a last place team with zero talent behind Frazier. The fact that we have 12 wins is an accompishment in and of itself. Just don't expect the casual fans to show up until you see the win total go up.

No it wasn't.
We averaged 8020 that season. Our average last year when we went to the NCAAs was 7457 Our average attendance this year is 6770.
All of those numbers are embarrassingly bad. Plus the actual fannies in the seats count were considerably less than the attendance figures. Announced attendance is tickets sold and we always have had a considerable no show problem
