Hoops 2012-13 Schedule Update

  • From CBS Sports:

    PUERTO RICO TIP-OFF

    Dates: Nov. 15, 16, 18

Teams: N.C. State, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Providence, UMass, Southern Mississippi, one more TBD

Penn State was known to be participating for a few months now, but this update has confirmed some more teams. I believe NC State, Providence are both going to have very good seasons this year, should provide a good test for Penn State despite no 'major' names.

In 2007-08 Penn State participated in the Old Spice Classic in Florida going 0-3 with losses vs. South Carolina, UCF, and Rider.
In 2008-09 the Lions participated in a mini-tournament, the Philly Hoop Group Classic, losing to Rhode Island in the first game before beating Towson in the second one.
In 2009-10, Penn State went to the Charleston Classic in South Carolina and dropped the first two games to UNC Wilmington and Tulane before beating Davidson in the third and final game.
This past year, Penn State was a part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament, beating Radford and Long Island at home, before heading to Massachusetts where they lost to Kentucky, and finally beat South Florida in the last game.

  • Not a bad lineup of teams.

  • Pretty good teams right there. Tennessee has a good future, Providence had a top 10 recruiting class, and NC State might win the ACC.

  • Yea state should be pretty good. They have a ton of talent but it is state so I could see them not playing to their talent level

How'd they pull that off? I don't remember the last time they were relevant.

Overall, I'm happy with the teams in the tournament. Just glad we don't have to play a Kentucky this year.
