Hey State fans......from Bama

  • Looks like you guys are hearing some positive news on D. Johnson. Would be great to lock up a franchise type LT like that for the future of BOBs offense.

What do you guys hear about Robert Foster?

We've heard a lot of positive things about him lately and what seemed like a pipe dream to get him to Bama seems very possible. Our MODs have him as a slight lean to Pitt, but family is coming down with him sooner than later and he still has an official this fall.

We hear Foster doesn't care about us.

  • Foster has no interest in us anymore.

I have said from the get go that I think Foster ends up going to Bama...Reminds me of a mix of Marquis Maze and Julio Jones to tell you the truth.

I would love to see it. Sounds like we have to recruit mom more than the kid at this point.

What do you guys think about the Boyd kid at WR? Hear he's a PSU lean at this point. Looked good lately.

Not sure he's a PSU lean at this point. Been hearing he favors WVU. However, we may make up some ground because of his relationship with Hackenberg from this weekend. He's planning on visiting soon, so it's very possible he's liking us more and more.

We've been hearing Boyd is a WVU lean but he played with Hackenberg at the Rivals 100 camp this weekend and their 7 on 7 team won the event today so that can only help us - hear he is now coming to visit PSU - maybe next weekend when we will have a lot of recruits and commits on campus..

Foster is pretty quiet, so im not sure if his mom would be the key. I think that his coach has a lot to do with his recruiting though.

Honestly Boyd is a kid that if he didn't play Class A (AAAA being the largest, so he plays for a small school), he would probably be one of the higher rated Athletes in the country. The kid is a flat out stud and i would say the same exact thing if he ended up at Pitt or WVU. He could also play FS too, to go along with WR.

We love him and he'll be on campus the 28th. He supposedly really hit it off with Hackenberg this weekend at the rivals challenge. He definitely isn't a PSU lean at this point but maybe after he visits we'll move up on his list.

A good relationship between a QB and WR can flip things quickly for sure.

    Good luck guys!

  • Congrats on Johnson!!

Love his athleticism and length. Reminds me of Chris Samuels in that his combination of footwork and his ability to use his hands makes him a perfect LT. He looks like he could add some weight and not lose a lot of his agility. I love big, but still lean LTs.

Wow, that's a really good compliment comparing him to Samuels(one of my favorite, and one the best college OT's of all time). I think DJ needs to work a bit on better hand placement, but I agree on his pure athletic ability. He sinks those hips well for a big kid.

I second this one! I think Foster's coach is definitely on Bama's side. I hope ya'll get him.

On Boyd, IMO, I like him a lot. I know some disagree, but I see him being an ideal slot due to his vision and run after the catch ability. I think the only thing keeping him away from being a top-tier prospect like Foster is that he lacks the height/weight/speed combo that Foster possesses.

  • Think Foster ends up at Bama or Pitt. Need to worry about academics where ever he goes though. Just something to keep an eye on.

With DJ in the fold and telling Scout that he will help recruit guys, I think we put him on commit watch this weekend. We are competing with WVU... Not an elite program. I just think after working out with Hack again, having a good friend in his ear, and another tour of the facilities (with the finished weight room) he will be soon ours. Going on record right now...

FWIW, I think Boyd is taller than sites have him listed as. Hack is 6'4 or 6'5, he was only an inch or so shorter than Hack... And his speed was on full display at the Rivals challenge this weekend, earing top WR honors and outshining Marquez North and Jalin Marshall. I think he is under-rated. If he plays at a bigger HS he is ranked higher. But I dont care about that ranking. He will soon be ours and make recruiting services look foolish.

I definitely agree that Boyd is a burner (from the tape I saw) and that is great news to hear about his height. I definitely agree with you that Boyd is underrated nationally, I think he should be a top-tier athlete prospect. I like Foster, but I don't think there are many things that separate him from Boyd.

I hope your right, but I still worry about WVU...there is a lot to like if your a WR prospect. However, I think Hack could be our Ace in the hole.

  • Need BOB to sell the new system, along with Hack and Boyd could be on board, IMO.

Size is great but not as important in college with a buch of zone being played, especially with a bunch of 3 wide.

Boyd, along with Hack and Bren would be a solid core to build a new identity around for you guys. Speed and an thletic TE is dangerous in the seams.

  • I can only give general impressions since I don't know RF. But there is a telling article/interview.

The Ohio State fans can hear an interview here, the public comments are telling.
    http://ohiostate.247sports.com/Article/FRR-Robert-Foster-Opens-Up-78225

    Postings on Foster have been:
    a) he's a quiet, introverted kid.
    2) he likes being close to home
iii) Academics aren't his strong suit
    IV) He's amazingly talented.
    7) He had a rough early visit to OSU, and dropped PSU from consideration after the visit here.

My conjecture is that he would not have fit in well with this 2013 class at PSU. The kids coming in seem to be forming a close bond. They're vocal, tweet each other, reach out to each other. PSU is gathering a very extroverted group and RF might not feel comfortable with that. Plus add in the academic expectations, he would be happier closer to home.

However, he will be more successful at Alabama than anywhere else. Almost every kid is the 4*/5* from around the country. You're a National Championship contender and RF can fit in where football is nearly everything. That's not a dig at Bama's academics or anything. Saban is improving, but he's short of the 87% at PSU.

So Foster can pick between a comfort zone where he's the best athlete on the field every week (like Randy Moss at Marshall) in a Cryst-run-oriented offense or compete with the best from around the country and have a chance at a 1st round draft pick Like Julio Jones.

I think he'd be nuts to pass on Bama.

Well said, just don't want 2c him running down the sidelines against us in the NC,... Not a chance Pitt ever gets there, so my vote is for Pitt.
