  • Wish I could upvote palehorse's comments +10000. Each word is spot on.

Doesn't seem like anything new in the email string -- just basically what the collective testimony already revealed about the deliberative process that would be expected.

palehorse wrote ....I'm not sure what revelations are in these emails. Seems like pretty much what we already knew. We knew Joe knew about 2001. They say that Curley felt they should confront Jerry prior to going to authorities after his conversation with Joe. I can see a lot of the older generation taking that stance. That doesn't surprise me at all. It doesn't say anything about Joe suggesting they should not go to authorities. Also, we are asked to believe that the three admins are speaking freely, yet there are no resentful comments made about Joe strong arming their position? If Joe was forcing anyone's hand, I can guarantee you there would be a different tone to those emails. Those emails don't paint Joe as being in charge of anything as many have claimed he was. Those emails also don't confirm that they thought what Mcqueary "saw" was rape. Quite the opposite actually. If McQueary told them what he said on the witness stand, then they had nothing more than Mike saying he heard things that sounded like Jerry was raping a kid, then that he never saw anything to confirm that when they came into view. The lack of alarm in those emails indicate to me that they thought there was something less than rape going on with Jerry.

  • Until I see more information I'm withholding judgement on this entire situation. There is major context lacking in the released emails yet it was damaging still because it has allowed many to form strong opinions w/o all the facts.

Let's say that MM talks to Joe about the incident but does not go into graphic detail about what he thought he saw. Joe is troubled by this and does report it up the chain of command. He does however NOT say what Mike told him he witnessed was child rape. Curley and Schultz then talk to MM who tells them a different account, possibly more detail, different circumstances who knows. Maybe Curley is now conflicted because he has heard 2 differing accounts of the same incident. He then goes back to Joe and asks him again what MM told him("after talking to Joe") Curley is further conflicted because Joe once again reaffirms his earlier story. Unsure what to do because of this, Curley then decides to change course and confront Sandusky first instead of going to the authorities. Sandusky offers to get them in contact w/the kid in question. Stooge 1 and 2 Curley and Schultz view this as a positive as it is unlikely that someone who raped a child would volunteer to put you in contact w/that child. They never do follow up, and hope that Jerry got the message that they were wise to his shit. Spandex simply rubber stamps his approval of the plan of action.

If Joe later followed up, Curley could have told him that they looked into it, but they could not verify the information. They also instituted the no Second Mile Kids in PSU Facilities. Joe shrugs it off and moves on.This to me is Joe's own admission of "With the benefit of hindsight I wish I had done more." This is just 1 possible explanation for how the scenario may have played out. Sandusky(Criminal) + Incompetent Stooges(Curley and Schultz) +Arrogant Windbag (Spanier) = Sandusky Scandal. I don't view Joe's actions in a nefarious manner what so ever. IMO he tried to do something w/the information he was given. In his own words it wasn't enough. He shares some blame in all of this, but I'm not willing to say he was the puppet master pulling the strings. It doesn't hold water for me.

  • I feel horrible for your fan base. I cannot imagine if I had to question if I should support the team I loved due to terrible mstakes by a few. However I'm 28 years old and the sad thing is for the rest of my life I will not remember penn state for joe paterno, but Jerry Sandusky. That's why I feel bad for penn state fans. I hope your program rebounds quickly we need more big ten teams to improve. Any fan that wishes another school sanctions is a moron.

Thanks for the kind words. I wish more fans, from all fan bases, had the same mindset as you.

It is easy to support PSU....

These are the actions of 5 men who have various levels of guilty... The players, fans, students, 99% of the faculty, and friends of PSU HAD ZERO to do with this.....

I support the good and try to cut out the bad.... No different than any society.

No it's just the " people are greedy and will do anything to get the best athletes and to avoid being detected" excuse.

Freeh has nothing to do with NCAA rules. If he uncovers anything about Joe protecting players, it will be collateral damage... But he is trying to unearth EVERYTHING and will be as thorough as possible, so I wouldnt be surprised if there were a few darker secrets. I dont expect anything too major though. Joe was notoriously clean when it comes to players and class/conduct and such. He handled it his own way (without student affairs), but he still handled it... But again, Freeh is strictly about Sandusky... Not NCAA violations. Anything that comes of Freeh involving the NCAA is coincidental. he's not supposed to be conducting an investigation for the NCAA, he's supposed to be uncovering the truth about Sandusky.
