Hello From MSU!

  • For the best steak:

    1. Kelly Steak & Seafood (Boalsburg)
    2. Duffy's Tavern (Boalsburg)
    3. Carnegie Inn (out of town near Toftrees Resort)
    4. The Tavern (downtown State College)

In that order. You really can't go wrong with any.

If you collect frequent hotel points consider:

    Courtyard by Mariott
    Residence Inn
    Hilton Garden Inn
    Country Inn & Suites
Holiday Inn Express; Hampton Inn; Fairfield Inn & Suites are located in the same area and walking distance to the Texas Road Housea

  • Another decent place is The Ale House, which is out by Toftrees.

Thanks, I'm checking out both hotels now.

If not steak, anything else (specifically) you'd recommend? I've heard there's an awesome ice cream place there as well.

If you stay in DuBois, you may as well head 15 minutes to Clearfield to eat at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub -- home of the world's largest burger. It's as good of a burger as you're going to find anywhere. Their menu is extensive, so give yourself some extra time to peruse the menu lol

How's it going guys, I come in peace.

I am flying out to visit a client in Saint Mary's, PA in January. I (unintentionally...) am flying out to Pittsburgh 1-16-12 and am going to make the drive to State College for the MSU/PSU basketball game.

I got a pretty decent deal on a ticket for $23 in section 102, so all set there, but I was hoping to pick up a few tips on where to eat/where to stay in the city. No budget restrictions really, and any tips would be useful.

Also little things such as parking etc, any tips would be great. Really appreciate it!

Sidenote: Very happy to see you guys turn your season around in football after a brutal start. McGloin played well and O'Brien did a fantastic job. Stay positive with everything on that front, you guys hired a good one.

Thanks for the kind words, enjoy your stay in PA, and before you leave please leave us your basketball team.

Thanks, and have a lovely day!

This place is one of my least favorites downtown. It's so far out of the way, the atmosphere sucks, and the prices are awful compared to everything more centrally located.

Best bars downtown IMO (I like good beer and good atmosphere):

    Zeno's
    Mad Mex
Bar Bleu (on weekends when they have a band)
Adam's Apple (especially in the winter with the fireplace)
    Rathskeller
    Dark Horse (great wings)
    Inferno
    Pickle's
Phyrst (depending on the entertainment and night of the week)
    Brewery (when feeling extra divey)
Rotelli's (some good beer specials, and decent food)

    Not downtown:
    Otto's
    Champs
Autoport (in the summer when the deck is open)

If you're looking for bar specials, best place to go is http://www.statecollege.com/bartour the week of your visit.

Hard to go wrong with many of those places, especially middle of the week. Plus, it'll only be 2nd week of the semester so many students will still be out.

Penn Pallet up in Saint Marys. Great customer

I'm really excited for the trip. I went to MSU and have been to IU and UM a couple times, but this will be my fourth B10 campus

Penn Pallet is actually one of my suppliers!

Really good company, easily my best client.

I do a ton of work with Treen Box & Pallet in Mifflintown also if you're familiar with them at all (fairly close to State College)

But Penn Pallet is my first and best client, they're very dear to my heart. Excited for the trip and I got to say you guys are great. Very friendly and I've got a great list made up already.

Just one more thing, I want to take a quick run through of the campus, besides the stadium anything worth checking out for a second?

  • You should go in Rec hall and look at all the old pics from many years of different teams. Beaver stadium has a nice little sports hall of fame too. Other than that, I like to just walk around from the HUB to Old Main and around some of the older buildings.

  • Also, if you are looking for a pizza type of place, DP Dough's Calzones were my daily nutrition while in school. Not necessarily a pizza, but I was never big on any of the pizza places in SC and I lived right near DP Doughs. The Buffer Zone, Double Meat with a Big Azz Cookie is where it is at.

If you like wings and just want to order out, it seems like our entire fball team is infatuated with Wings Over Happy Valley. They are pretty good wings.

  • If you stay at the Nittany Lion or the Penn Stater , they will take you anywhere you want to go on campus, in town or even Boalsburg. They will also pick you up when you are ready to come back!

Construction zone is where it's at. CZ secret, always get sausage as fifth ingredient bcuz it comes with mozzarella mixed in, so this way u don't have to waste one of your five toppings on a cheese!

PS- Don't go to chumleys, unless u really like sausage.

The pond by alumni hall, old main, but walk down from the library steps, and the arboretum if all hell hasn't frozen over state college.

  • If you want to pick a hotel based on location only, the Days Inn is the best hands down. Second place would be the Atherton Hotel. Neither are that nice (in my opinion), but they are the only two hotels downtown.

Go to Zeno's for the best beer selection, and Darkhorse Tavern for the best wings. Herwigs Austrian Bistro is excellent. Otto's is a great brewpub a few miles from downtown. For steak Kelly's is a good bet.

The Nittany Lion Shrine is right next to the Nittany Lion Inn, across the street from Rec Hall.

Walking down from the Paterno/Pattee Library, go down the mall to the Allen Street gates. You'll pass by Old Main on your left, and at the end, you end up right at the Corner Room and the Christmas Tree.

The new Millienium Science Complex is an impressive looking building near the center of campus on Pollock Rd.

Also, if it's not too cold and you have a sweet tooth, you should stop in at the Berkey Creamery for some ice cream.

Herwigs is still there? I need to stop when I am in town next time! I loved that place when I was in school.

I second, if you like(Austrian) food...its definitely worth the stop.
