Hearing that...

  • ... Tom Bradley has made some calls to gauge Pitt's interest level in him being their new head coach. Certainly a situation worth monitoring.

  • Not surprised... Sean somehow you have been out scooping every other site recently in regards to the coaching changes and such.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

  • As was said earlier, this should be an interesting two months.

  • I have to ask, was Bradley the one who initiated conversation the last few times this job opportunity was there? Whether he was or wasn't, I think due to the current structure and state of the program, this may very well be his job if he wants it, provided Pitt feels the same way.

  • Not surprised and good for him. The writing is on the wall that PSU is going out of house either this year or next so it is good to be looking around.

  • Interesting, and a little disappointing. At the same time...have to wonder if this is related at all to the possibility that Paterno won't return next year, and that PSU will be hiring from outside the program. I'm probably reading too much into it.

Bit of a punch to the gut that he'd switch to Pitt and basically compete against Penn State.

Yup. First Vandy and now maybe Scrap? that would be very telling IMO.

  • I dont blame him at all if he goes to Pitt. Might be his only HC job offer. Can't kill a mans dreams, he has been more than loyal to PSU and Joe.

  • Who knows, if he goes there maybe that reinvigorates the PSU-Pitt rivalry and that series will start up again. It has been too long.

    Andrew Dzurita

  • If true, all but assures PSU will be going out-of-house for the next hire and it makes me happy. The program needs a shot in the arm but not a complete overhaul like the disaster Michigan got themselves in. I had been hearing out-of-house was increasingly likely before and this pretty much confirms it. The Outback bowl may not be a huge game but that game will now have more storylines and viewers than most other more prestigious games.

  • I think at this point any assistant that is offered a HC position has to take it.

only real competing would be for recruiting, but if and when we hire someone new i feel recruiting will be in our favor. . . I feel like this is a total win-win here, Bradley finally is a head coach, and maybe if enough coaches leave joe will leave too. Personally I hope Bradley takes the job and does good enough to get a better offer so sPitt can go back to suckin while he will get a chance at a legit fbs school.

  • Bradley knows he's not going to be Penn State's next coach. I'd be looking if I were him as well. The domino effect of coaching changes is really exciting. If Vandy and Bradley leave, I bet the whole thing blows up. Looking more and more like we are going to have defectors prior to Joe's announcement (whenever that occurs).

Hope some of my favorite candidates don't go to Florida (Dan Mullen), Miami, or Michigan(Harbaugh) first!

Agree, I really hope Mullen isn't going to Florida, so I can hold out my hope.

  • If true, and Golden is a legit candidate for the UM job, things just got very interesting.

Golden wouldn't pursue Miami unless he thought he had no chance at PSU...and the most logical reason would be because of an in-house hire (i.e. Scrap).

    Pure conjecture.

Going with the gut on this ... but why would all of these guys decide, of all the other years, that this is when they need to start looking for jobs ... and seriously look for jobs.

Something came down recently and I have a strong feeling that people have been informed this is it ... why else would Vandy and Bradley be looking for jobs now. Ball State, as a head coach ... seriously? Why would Bradley leave PSU now ... just feels like someone told them clean slate next year boys, consider this your 4 week notice.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

What I started to think last night... Actions speak louder than anything. Especially since non of them have ever left before. More so Joe giving an recommendation about Vandy...pray

It sure is starting to feel that way.

    The timing will be critical.

  • In regards to the names being thrown around here:

Golden: After all the griping we do about the plain, watered down offense, why on earth would we bring in a coach whose primary offense is pound the ball up the middle between 2 TE's? It's one thing to do that to Kent State and Akron, I don't think that would work against Cameron Heyward.

Mullen: I'm more open to him than I was before because of the fact he told Cecil Newton he "didn't want to hear that" in reagrds to pay to play, but this is a guy who worked for Urban Meyer, one of the sleeziest sleezeballs in all of CFB. The way that guy took advantage of Shariff Floyd just screams child predator.

I think its pretty obvious Harbaugh is headed to Michigan

Gruden, I personally don't get the hype. No idea how he would do coaching 18 year olds or sealing the deal with their parents, and he had one good season with Tampa Bay and a few with Oakland 10 years ago. Plus does he have PSU values?

Pat Fitzgerald has got to be the clear #1. Give him $3+ million and I think he's here.

On a side note, I don't understand how PSU can have an athletic budget of $90 million a year but not spend at least couple million to hire a quality head coach who would consistently bring in $10+ million from BCS Bowl revenue. If they were looking for a way to justify STEP, a big time HC would certainly help.

  • It is not obvious that Harbaugh is going to UM. Harbaugh is going to be offered a boat load of money to go to either Carolina or San Fran.

Totally agree with this point. The guy won big at Stanford of all places ... what else does he need to prove in the college ranks?
