I'm still holding onto a sliver of hope that Shrive can get it going this year. This kid had everything going for him. It has to be issues between the ears because he certainly had everything else going for him when he left H.S.

If lack of work ethic and wanting to focus on charity work is "between the ears" then sure I agree with you

Eating and puttin on weight in the wrong places has never been his problem... His problem is working hard in the gym and getting the weight to transfer to the right places and show a toughness and grit required to kill in the trenches... We will see. If he makes it- awesome. But if not, wont be surprised. Some guys have the killer instinct and finish blocks... He hasn't been that guy in 3 and a half years here...

ya, by bulked meant muscle mass, i definitely agree, in and outside of class, his personality is that of a a more laid back, really non aggressive, i assume it translates into that in the same way when in front of coaches in practice and in the weight room....I don't mind even if he doesn't start though. i think the work he does with THON and other organizations is plenty important and he is helped by saying he plays on the football team. the fact that he hasn't risen to expectations could be viewed as his fault or the coaches lack of motivation....probably a lot of downvotes my way for the last statement...but we haven't produced a first round offensive lineman since....(maybe i am too young) can't remember who

Levi Brown... 2007. 5th overall pick, Arizona Cardinals... Shrive is to blame... Hopefully he turns it around though. I am rooting for him and the rest of our team to bust their arses and get much better. We will see

Oh good looks. What a beast. I am also really excited about the improvements. I can't wait to see hodges and fortt running through o lineman like they playing high school kids

I like the star system because it gives me a "base" to start my own personal evaluations of a player. I go into watching film on say... Alex Anzalone knowing that he is a 4 star kid. I see the athleticism, and I see the versitility (LB or H-Back). But I also see the poor tackling technique against competition that I would call below average. I put that all together, and personally, I think he is a high 3 star (88 rating) type kid.

My point is, the star system isn't an absolute. Nothing is. But it is a decent baseline for judging a recruit's ability.

I played in the same conference as Anzalone (although that was 20+ years ago). I can attest that the competition is definitely below average. Most schools are AA and smaller. There has been very few D1 football players to ever come out of the conference.

Arm weight room stomach for the harsh winter. But I don't really know any o lineman. So not sure how to proportion his stomach(no six pack)

Shoulders arms and back are good barometers... And legs... Stomachs can be big and they can be just as strong. See Troutman...

  • The berks IC has gotten better. I am not saying it's a great league but teams have faired much better in the last 5-7 years than they have in the past.Although a lot of the success has come in Division 1, Wyomissing is in division 2

Correct. The Div1 school have gotten bigger, so the talent has risen. Most of the Div2 school are roughly the same size they were 10 years ago (before they had divisions). It's not very good. In fact, I would put it around the same competition level as Jarron Jones played against in high school. FWIW, J. Jones was said to have really struggled at the all-star game when he went up against legit D1 prospects.
