He just never stops!

  • McGloin is always quick with the self congratulations and public lobbying and he's really latched on to this idea that the offense plays much better with him in there (gross oversimplification in my opinion). He had his stats memorized and ready to fire off. Very unPSU-like.

“Obviously, I’d like to be the guy,” McGloin said. “I think I played well. I was 6-for-8 and I engineered three scoring drives in the four times when I was in there. I felt the offense played really well when I was in there, but it’s not up to me. It’s up to the coaches. All I can do is continue to take one day at a time and see what they decide next week.”

  • Wouldn't expect anything less. Frankly, I feel that both McGloin and Bolden are probably pretty tired of answering the same damn questions over and over again regarding the QB position - further fueling the debate.

  • He can think he played well by shouting off completing six of eight screen passes and engineering three scoring drives (really two because he had a 21-yard scoring drive in which he made one pass - a deaf mute could have led that drive resulting in a touchdown). He forgets he couldn't get out of a sack because he is slow and made one horrid play in which he threw the ball right in the hands of the opponent.I can't believe the staff, especially JVP doesn't put a muzzle on him. Usually, Joe would tell the kid to shut his trap. For some reason, he allows him to do this. McGloin is all about himself; is a horrid leader and has little humility. Maybe three to five hard pile drives to the turf by the Bama defense might do the trick, or another five interception game.

  • What do you want him to do? The kid has been answering the same questions for a year. Give me a quotable athlete anyday. I want to know what these guys are thinking. If he would come out and go Tiger Woods and give you jack in an interview, people would probably bash him to.

Sometimes I feel bad for guys like Sean or any reporter on a sports beat chasing athletes and asking questions only to get the crappiest, vanilla, answers. Then on the off chance these guys say anything interesting, and show some personality people bury them.

I think it's great that he speaks his mind. It gives us a better idea of what kind of person he is. But, based on the answers he gives, he's not the type of person for whom I, or it seems a lot of other people, have much respect.

Everything DC did was scrutinized...if you root for a number, the other guy is the enemy. DC had a full on concussion and fought to get back into the OSU game because he just wanted to play. Those in PD's camp used it against him for 2-3 years as what selfish kid he was. He couldn't win the big games, but was the only QB outside of Collins and MRob to win BT titles. BT title on the line, he throws 4 TD's and lights up a 9-2 team...doesn't count though somehow. If people don't have their guy in there, they find every little thing and try to use it against him.

The only thing MM could do for some is just win the job and win out...only way some will even remotely accept it. It sounds to me like a few of the people have personal reasons not to like him and I don't blame them if it's true. Bottom line for Rob or Matt is they not only have to win the job, they need to win games. If they don't, they will always be questioned. Fans are fickle outside of the ones MM is pissing on (literally apparently) and they only care about W's at the end of the day for the most part. A few here will say no way to that, but history holds true and PSU is no exception IMO.

  • But where does respect fall onto the football field. It doesn't matter what we think of the kid and if the coaches had shared the opinion of the fans he would be told to tone it down. And one thing I find interesting is how many Eagles and Steelers fans do we have on the board? I think both QB's on those teams are 100% bigger jerks then Matt McGloin, but you root for those guys and wear their jerseys but bury a kid for being cocky. How much different is Matt McGloin than Mark Sanchez (attitude wise) or are you saying just because Sanchez is better he can be cocky. If McGloin was an undisputed starter, all big ten type QB, would the animosity towards him be just as high?

Except he did something in college; won some very big games in college and has been the starting QB for the Jets who have managed to make it to the AFC title game two years running. He has backed it up, something McGloin hasn't done. When someone backs it up, he gets the benefit of the doubt. Talent wise, McGloin isn't in Sanchez's league. Not even close.

I totally agree on the personal perspective. I personally think that fans are really nit-picking on some of his comments because they don't like him and don't want him as the starter. When did fans become so sensitive?

The kid has been playing catch-up since he got on campus and now he's being ridiculed for answering the media's questions with reasons why he should be the starter. I don't know about most but I was raised to go get what I want.

This fan hatred and negative interpretation of his comments doesn't make sense. Fans applaud and pump-up the guy that tried to run out on the team because he didn't play as much as he thought he should of as a TRUE FRESHMAN. But dump on the kid that has worked his way up from third string to starter and had some successes as a leader. Joe Paterno and his tough love is the only reason that Bolden is still campus.

He's not throwing anyone under the bus... he's answering the questions with answers that are in his best interest.

You Bolden fanboys need to get over this "McGloin is selfish" crap. Look, at this point, I think Bolden should be starting, but to say that McGloin is selfish and Bolden isn't after Bolden threatened to transfer TWICE if he wasn't starting is absurd. That is selfish, too. Please get your head out of your @$$ and start rooting for PSU without blindly hating on one of our players.

Bolden didn't threaten to transfer, he asked for a release of his scholarship so he could transfer, and Joe said no. I don't have any problems with what Bolden did at the end of last season given the circumstances. I'm not aware of this 2nd "threat" you speak of. Mrob also wanted to transfer and Devlin did transfer and I don't have any issues with their decisions or desires either. I also don't think I have my head up my @$$ because I don't like the play or attitude/arrogance of McGloin. I don't hate the player, I hate his game.

  • both qb's looked good and bad.. i like the added dimension bolden tried to show by getting some good gains scrambling, but if he tries that against bama, he probably won't see another snap all year...

I don't think you can use this as a negative toward McGloin and a positive toward Bolden. I am pretty sure I saw Bolden stand in the pocket and watch a blitz up the middle come right at him. Same thing he did last year.
I really, really, really want Bolden to show progress and live up to the potential everyone speaks of. However, I think it is a true statement that the offense plays better when McGloin is in the game. It is amazing that everyone just keeps making excuses why the offense has more success when McGloin plays. Last year it was that McGloin played weaker talented defenses. This year it was because he was given short fields. Come on people - you can love Bolden and think he is the right choice. However, you need to face the facts that that offense simply does have more spark when MM is playing.
And before you jump on me - I am in the Bolden camp - I just wish he would start to unleash the potential.

I want to see another week before I say the offense plays better under mcgloin... just because of those 2 drops (and it was one of the worst teams we have played in a very very long time)

  • ejb, you do know the first drop by Moye was on the same drive where he led the team to a TD. While the drop hurt him at that moment, he did overcome that drop and score on the very same drive. The drop occured on a 1st and 10. It was the same drive where they had Suhey convert on a 4th down to keep the driving going. It seems to me people think that drop lead to a punt which it did not.
