Most message board Buckeye fans do think that.

US census. 633,000. From the government website. Look at population in thousands and it says 633.

Not that it's the biggest issue with the article (but you can pretend it is because it doesn't require anything to back it up besides posting a number), but I'm guessing your 2 million figure includes the suburbs.

Population of the 100 Largest Cities and Other Urban Places In The United States: 1790 to 1990

This paper presents decennial census population totals for the 100 largest cities and other urban places in the United States based on the 21 decennial censuses taken from 1790 to 1990. The paper represents the first time that the populations of the largest urban places at each census have been published in a single report and was prepared in response to numerous requests for this type of information.

  • You do understand the difference between city limits and a metro area? I live in Atlanta and the "city" of Atlanta is geographically small and threrefor a small population, but metro Atlanta is huge at around 5 million.

Yeah theres definitely a big difference. The thing with Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) is how they are determined. I like between StL and Chicago, and the Chicago one makes sense, but I disagree how they measured the StL one. It goes way into rural IL, and skews population and land mass areas. Obviously they take work patterns and such into accountm but I was surprised to say the least.

Yes I do, but the population of Columbus is 633k. Exactly why I said your 2 million figure includes the suburbs. Again, way to derail the topic because you know this article is a putrid reflection of your fan base.

The point is, this "contributor" to your board is a classless piece of shit who wrote a terrible article attacking a recruit's father that was factually incorrect about why Anzalone left you guys to boot. (Not to mention generalized an entire group of people in Central PA and stated that anyone who chooses Michigan is making an "emotional" hasty decision. But hey, nothing screams morality like "I am moral, not like those people from over there." "I'm gonna show you how much I hate child rape by telling you that those people over there put football above children and it's true because I said so!")
Then the mindless drones of your site all applaud him as if he wrote some great, informative, professional piece when in reality it was nothing more than a rambling, childish, bitter rant because someone turned away from Ohio State (heaven forbid right?)
I hope that the rest of the population that you are arguing for in the "metro area" isn't as classless, unprofessional, and downright pathetic as this "Bax" guy.

  • Also on another note, I am beginning to understand why these buckeye fans agree with articles like this. They are obviously insecure people who want to have people tell them how great they are and want to see other schools belittled. They do not want factual evidence, they do not want the truth, they just want to be told that they are superior to everyone so that they can hide their insecurities. Not all buckeye fans reflect this statement, but any idiots who believe that poor excuse for an article are.

  • Penn State fans are the insecure one's. Your mad you didn't get Meyer and now the future is going to be the BIG 2 AND the little rest. Sorry, Penn State's not part of the BIG 2.

    Remember this:

    roughneck

Listening to Bill King this morning...Matt Hayes from Sporting News just mentioned that he thinks Penn State is the job that Urban Meyer really wants and that discussions in the coaching community indicate this is very possible.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hamilton Lion

If OSU wasn't about to get nailed by the NCAA, I would have thought he was going to Columbus.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    POV

That would be a great hire. It is not like our kids haven't had off the field issues as well if that is what all the negativity is about, The difference is that Urban Meyer's teams are way more consistent and he has recent National Championships to his name.

The era of throw away scholarships would be over.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    LaJollaLion

I heard it and it's far from the first time I've heard Meyer and PSU as apparently he thinks he won't have to deal with the boosters as much and really can back to coaching without all the dirt of the SEC or an OSU.

Couple of other interesting things...the Gene Smith interview. Hayes basically said OSU is on crack for thinking that is all they get. He expects them to get hammered. After listening to it, Smith really is clueless. Not only did they fire JT after they said they weren't...now they granted him his reitrement instead. So basically he resigned with benefits and still gets what he wants from OSU. They went from I hope he doesn't fire us. Then it was he resigned and then it was a forced resgination. Now it's a retirement....they are all over the place and Smith may be the biggest idiot around.

One other thing Devon...PSU would be lucky as hell to get Meyer. He left the game because he hated the snake part of it and that is apparently why PSU is high on his list.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    tdiddy

You have no utter clue what you're talking about. Meyer isn't perfect. He's made some odd sales pitches in his day. So has Joe. Is it moral for an 84 yr old man to tell recruits that he will NEVER retire or die? It's sales...in which BS is a most effective weapon. If you don't think Joe has shot around some BS to land a recruit in his day, youre living in a parallel universe.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    tdiddy

    Guys I would want interviewed...

    - Urban Meyer
    - Bob Stoops
    - Mike Munchak
    - Darren Perry
    - Al Golden
    - Dan Mullen

Pat Fitzgerald isn't leaving NW or he'd be on the list.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    appoo

I don't believe urban meyer cheated. He just tells recruits whatever they want to great. There are far worse people on the game than urban meyer, and honestly my major issue with him is that offense.

The other thing - whoever the next coach is has to continue with the Penn state way. Success with honor & The Grand Experiment.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    PvillePA_Lion

Mark me down as one that would support Meyer at PSU. I just don't think he is as shaddy as some believe he is. I truly think he would carry on the beliefs that JoePa has brought us all up to believe in and would make PSU a force in the B10 quickly. Just one man's opinion though...
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Gunslinger317

I don't have a huge issue with Meyer. I think in the SEC he battled himself when it came to his competitive side and his ethical/moral side. I agree I don't think he liked the man he became while coaching in the SEC. It is more than possible he always wanted to model himself after someone like JoePa. So where better to do that than PSU.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    white_out

Urban to PSU would make so much sense on so many levels it's not even remotely close to being funny.

Fact 1: PSU is very very unique. We've had 2...2 coaches since 1950. PSU wants to win, but they also are perfectly happy going 10-2 and a big payday bowl.

Fact 2: There's a lot less pressure to win a NC than at Florida.

Fact 3: As someone else said, Meyer, with little effort could pull in 20 of the top 25 kids in the NE annually.

Fact 4: Joe loves him and would endorse it

Fact 5: AS far as I know, there is no NCAA violations on his resume, and the grad rates, have been above average.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    PK5

I was never the biggest fan of Meyer, but as time wore on, I started to like the guy. He was in the SEC...but yet he wasn't one of the huge big time cheaters. And obviously, it looks like he wanted to get away from that. Do I like his douche bag ways? His "My dream told you to come to Florida"? Not at all, but that's how recruiting works (unfortunately). Not to mention, Joe has a liking for the guy.

If Urban ends up at Penn State, we'll win a NC in 4 years. He'll get us Top 5 recruiting classes every single season. Really hope it happens.

As for who would I interview...

    Urban Meyer
    Pat Fitzgerald
    Al Golden
    Kirby Smart
    Greg Schiano
    Mike London
    James Franklin
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Bedford2108

Not only would Meyer be able to recruit Ohio but he can also recruit nationwide. He wouldn't be afraid to go to the south or to Texas.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is some more good stuff for you: http://pennstate.247sports.com/Board/18/Bill-Kings-Show-this-morning-3096962/1

    roadzy33

Bill had a guy on this morning from the sporting news that once again said the word around coaching circles is that Urban Meyer wants the PSU job when Joe retires. It was brought up because Bill asked if Urban would go to tO$U after this year and the guy said no way.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    white_out

Matt Hayes also said it on Twitter "Forget about Meyer to Ohio State, is waiting for the Penn State job to open."

More than 1 person has mentioned in conversations that Spanier/Curley is in favor of it, and it's one of the external moves that Joe would endorse.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    PSUjosh11

I'm completely in favor of this move. I think Urban knows that value of the PSU job and would adhere to the strict qualities that JoePa has build this program to be as far as enforcing Success With Honor.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    doc-69

I would take Urban in a heart beat, I just wish Joe would retire after this season!
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    mhentz

Say what you will about all this, but there's a lot that fits. If all this is true, it would make sense that Meyer would be interested in the PSU job. The PSU AD and the program are committed to doing things the right way; and, excepting for a few possible chump-change type transgressions like the occassional $100 handshake, the boosters for the most part are on board with doing things the right way; and finally, nobody but nobody meddles with Joe's program. Remember, all this came out just a little after the time of Meyer's and JoePa's openly brawsome lovefest the week before the UF-PSU game. And PSU IS a much less stressful job. There's a lot that fits. I'm willing to give Meyer the benefit of the doubt.

I mean isn't it so obvious that all PSU fans are jealous of OSU and upset that we lost Meyer to them...I mean some random CHERRYPICKED quotes from some message board threads.

I guess he decided the comments that were against UM coming to PSU were not that important to him.fingergun

    Lion_in_CBus

  • I don't think it is a secret that most PSU fans, at one point in time, wanted UM as the coach. I'll admit it, I was excited about the opportunity. However, I also don't think it is much of a secret that most of us woud not go back and change the way the coaching game ultimately played out. We have Bill O'Brien and we now realize that he stands for what we as Penn Staters believe in and Urban Meyer likely does not.

We'll admit we were wrong. So what. Quote all the past threads that you want. We are looking to the future but apparently OSU fans feel the need to dwell on issues they cannot control.
