    Unfortunately your legacy is not defined by what you build but rather single events and unfortunately his lady event that he is defined by is Sandusky scandal and really destroys his legacy for all the great things he did sonny.

    This is the post to celebrate the Joe Paterno for the man that most of us revered, a man who gave his heart and soul to this university, a man who has molded so many into productive citizens, a man that defined the characteristics of a student athlete by graduating so many of them throughout his life. For you to defile our celebration of his birthday by stating his shortcomings showed poor judgement on your part.

  • Was a controversial figure in the middle of the Sandusky case. Whatever he knew it was not as viewed as doing enough and unfortunately that the circumstances thrive under his leadership...knowingly or not and thhat will forever stain his legacy.

    History is filled with them. You celebrate Thomas Jefferson who owned a bunch of slaves and may have even fathered several children.

    Celebrate Washington, very much a flawed individual.

    Kennedy with his womanizing ways.

    If you are catholic, you show up to church every Sunday and pretend that nothing had hit them, scandal or not.

    Common thread all are usually remembered or defined by one event. Washing, first president, Jefferson president, Kennedy Cuban missile crisis. They looked past the rest of their flaws and the legend grew.

    My point is simple. The more I have read and continue to read about Paterno the less doubt he knew something and unfortunately did not rise to the occasion. I have been a big paterno fan since I was at psu, but you cannot hold out on a prayer that he did not know anything especially since he is not around to actually share the truth.

And until that time, I will continue to honor the man for the overwhelming good that he has done and many lives that he has made better. This thread's purpose was to thank the man on his birthday.
