It's a case where Haplea didn't feel that he fit into the new system that Bill O'Brien brought in and he thought a fresh start would be best. He kind of explored a transfer after the spring, but like Rob Bolden, the adapted transfer rules were a big plus for him. Haplea was listed as the second teamer at the 'Y' tight end

I love how ESPN is runinng with Redd and Haplea and Bolden like the whole team is leaving and we wont have any talent left... When in reality, Redd hurts, but is at RB (a position that can be easily replaced) and Haplea wasn't a starter and Bolden was the 3rd string QB...

This transfer makes sense. That's the silver lining I see in all this is that those who don't quite "fit" in this new system = can seek the best case scenario transfer with no penalty.

The only one that mattered was Redd. The others were third and fourth string players. ESPN made a big deal over a walk-on transferring to NC State. They have no clue the insignificance of these kids absent one.

When you have started multiple games at TE and have as many TDs as an OT in Cadogan, maybe it is time for you to move on down the road. That said eSpin will run with this like we just lost the second coming of Mike Ditka. Onward and upward.

Interesting - FSU doesn't run many two tight end sets, and TE's don't catch many passes. Nick O'Leary (Jack Nicklaus' grandson) will be a true Soph this year. This is what he said after Spring practice: 'On FSU using the tight end more this season. “This spring we’ve done two tight end sets probably 75 percent of the time when last year we did probably 20 percent of the time.”
So it appears there will be more opportunities for him there and a better depth chart. Works out for me - no real harm to PSU and helps FSU, however minor it may be. Good luck to Kevin.

Leave it to Hamilton to pile an insult and classlessness on top of a compliment. These guys worked their butts off during their time at PSU, got up early with the others, ran the gassers, etc, while your contribution (and mine) amounted to some $$, tailgating and game attendance. No need to be an *ss towards Haplea and the others non-starters.

I agree that Haplea did not face a promising year at Penn State, and share all the good wishes for his career at FSU, However, it raises an interesting quesation. Why is Redd a "quitter" simply because he is more valuable, Doesn't he have the same right his self-interest, as he sees it,
We recover more quickly by letting it go, and focusing on who remains.

At FSU O'Leary is a very good pass catching TE. Where FSU got hammered was run blocking at the TE position. FSU converted a DE to TE in the offseason to help with blocking. Hopefully Haplea can help as well. Got a couple good young ones in the pipeline, just young.
