    Hackenberg calm and cool at Elite 11, still firmly committed to Penn State - CBSSports

    His face said it all, calm but serious and with a hint of excitement. That's how Fork Union (Va.) signal-caller Christian Hackenberg carries himself off the field and it was certainly an apt description of how he looked passing during the two hour opening session at the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp on Wednesday.

  • I like this class. They committed knowing what they were getting into. If we got sanctions, I would expect to see some defections, but Hack, Breneman and several others already have the "us against the world" mentality. Unless we got hammered, I'd expect most of these guys to stick.

    By the way, in the Elite 11 thread on tBB, JC Shurburtt noted that Hack was the best of his group. However, he didn't list Hack in the QB's who stood out (he did list Morris, Browne, and OSU's commit, Barrett, along with about 5 others). JC also said it was just a practice. Overall, the Elite 11 is not a huge deal in terms of ratings/rankings. However, I think if they're looking to see specific things out of a QB and they see them, then they'll bump him up. Not sure exactly what they're hoping to see out of Hack - if I had to guess, possible more consistency and more accuracy.

  • Seems like as long as we don't get the death penalty and we have football, most of these guys will stick with their commitments, which I like to hear. Bowl bands can be overcome (i.e. look at USC).

  • Don't blame kids for looking with all of the talk but this line:

    "Several members of the group are keeping their options open however, with a source telling CBSSports.com that a number of the Penn State pledges have contacted other programs about everything from visits to whether they still had a committable scholarship offer. "

    is not the most comforting. Given that nothing the NCAA does is quick I hope BOB is able to keep the class together. Glad there are leaders in the group coming out to reaffir their commitments.

  • "despite the increasing likelihood of serious sanctions based on strong talk from leaders at the NCAA" - this kind of stuff drives me nuts. Emmert said he read the Freeh report but still mentioned "if violations are found" 18 times. He also said doing nothing is still on the table. How does that translate into increasing likelihood of serious sanctions? I'm glad Hackenburg isn't buying it.

    I skimmed and didn't see that part. While I have a hard time trusting a "source" from CBSSports, that is a bit worrisome. Let's hope nothing comes from it.

    I honestly think that they would be dumb not to keep their options open. I mean its only smart. Of course I want them all to stay commited but on the chance that something big does happen, they have to look out for their future. The maturity of this group; however, simply blows my mind. I can guaruntee that I was not that level headed as a 17 year old. My opinion is that this group stays together and nothing major (i.e. the death penalty) happens to Penn State. I can see heavy fines, etc. but shutting down the program doesn't help anyone involved. It's simply punishing the wrong people. But it's hard to tell what could happen at this point. Good to see BOB doing work and keeping everyone updated though!

    Webb and Bradshaw would hurt. Webb has been one of the quieter once of the recruit in his affirmness with PSU, but he has said a number of times PSU just felt right and it was like family. I think he goes with his gut in the end and sticks.

    Bradshaw, we dont know too much about at all. Maybe his father can shed some light. He'd be the 2nd person out of this list that I want to ensure stays on board as I think Vandy can turn him into a big time player and future NFL LBer. He reminds me of a couple other undersized 3 stars PSU has had that ended up All-American/All-Big Ten/big time contributors in the NFL.

    Issah, I think he realized he was not getting the offer he wanted (Oregon) and that schools were not willing to take him strictly for offense.

    I doubt it on Bradshaw and Issah. Webb is the guy I'd watch. Neiko's update on Rivals was very encouraging as well.
