HOT: Joel Myers email

Corbett laid that out in his appeal rebuttal a couple days ago.

yes. I'm just saying that having it direct from one of the board members can only help. I know you don't think it will help, but myself and others disagree. nothing wrong with that.

I've done legal witness work. Confirming sources help.

  • If Erickson acted outside the legal protocol, it would seem he acted outside his authority. If that's the case, the consent to the sanctions would be null and void. It would seem an average law firm could make that stand up. Not to mention Corbett should seize this and run with it as part of his lawsuit.

Yes Nevada, the e-mail may be self-serving and too late perhaps, but the alternative is to sit back and shut your mouth and let it happen to you. I don't see anyone on this board raising hell in the form of demonstration/confrontation over the sanctions. It's easy to sit behind a key board and criticize, but who else is gonna get out there? The sanctions aren't going away without a concerted effort by people with stature and that's slowly but surely beginning.

So it was an email from Joel Myers (is he a BOT memeber?) and was sent to whom?

The email was sent to me and some other (blind) distribution list. My inference is that he has kept a list of people who have written him emails before about this affair. I sent him an email months ago.

Myers is a long standing BOT member.

  • I read this as having two audiences: the NCAA and the BoT. This is the line of reasoning that allows the BoT to both implement the recommendations that they paid 6.5 million for (face saving) and simultaneously attack the NCAA.

Didnt the state of PA just file a suit against the NCAA? Didnt the Paterno family just go release a pretty detailed report? I would say the information is "out there".

Meyers doesnt represent the BOT, he represents himself. Same as Lubrano and Ziegler and Franco represent themselves. How are they doing?

Look, my point is, the State has a pending lawsuit. No letter to Alumni that gets reposted on a message board is going to have more impact that what Corbetts suit will have. Nor will it help Corbetts case. I have no problem with what Meyers is doing. Speaking his mind is fine by me. I just dont understand what all the excitement is about.

The excitement is that the narrative has changed, insiders are emboldened, and the dominoes appear to be slowly falling. The more we see these narratives, the more others will speak up too. To me, that is refreshing.

Yeah...I don't remember him speaking out for Joe or the school when this all hit the fan. I don't recall him questioning the sanctions either. Things are changing and I doubt he is the last one to take this stance. The more that come out, the better off PSU will be. Maybe they can force Hot ROD and the NCAA to talk some more. Maybe not, but every lit bit helps.

of course he is, but he is also the plaintiff in the law suit in question and is technically acting on the behalf of the Commonwealth, not Penn State. I hope you can see how a Penn State BOT member not affiliated in any way shape or form with the PA lawsuit speaking out publicly is different from Corbett defending his own lawsuit.... it seems pretty obvious to me. Maybe you can point me to the other judgmental comments from any penn state official about the NCAA's actions or the Freeh Report? I'm not sure if there are any as PSU has been very careful to stay neutral on these issues to date. To my knowledge, this is the first strong comments against the NCAA and on the Freeh Report from a Penn State official outside of Lubrano. please correct me if I'm wrong though. Myers has been on the board for over 20 years and is has a lot more pull that the 3 newly elected pot stirrers.

You might be right in that this doesn't directly help the cause, but IMO, the simple fact that a long time board member is speaking out against the Freeh report and NCAA sanctions is at least noteworthy in the timeline of this saga.

he wrote a great letter that was read at the August BOT meeting. here's a section:

"Interesting, some in the NCAA say it did not happen that way, they say no “death penalty”
was threatened, but review of the quotes from Emmert and Ray support that it occurred,
just as President Erickson has said. I will pass out a review of the quotes that demonstrate
these comments. But, even there, a straight answer from the NCAA seems impossible to
secure. We see parsed words in a clear attempt to paint Dr. Erickson as a liar. This too is
not acceptable. In the cold light of day we must realize we have to stand up against this,
    not stand down.

Are these tactics and this lack of clarity and candor what the NCAA stands for?
Threats, coercion, lying, stealing, and intimidation are not what we teach our students as
appropriate business tactics for a profit or non-profit organization.
I would hope such answers on a test would get a failing grade for ethics in the Smeal
College of Business and in a law class at the Dickinson School of Law.
In addition, the very processes of the NCAA were not followed by the NCAA and the NCAA
seems hell bent on turning a deaf ear to concerns by anyone to review its own despicable
actions. In the cold light of day we must realize we have to stand up against this, not stand
    down.

This all stands in stark contrast to the aggressive actions Penn State took quickly and with
transparency and candor as the difficult news surrounding the Sandusky crimes came to
    light.

The NCAA is no longer worthy to be considered a representative of higher education.
Furthermore, the powerful NCAA, an association of university presidents, apparently free of
control by faculty and university boards is seriously damaging the mission and reputation of
higher education in America. The NCAA needs the fresh air of reform to blow through it. I
say to the faculties and boards of American higher education universities, take back your
    institutions."

Come on, man. Anyone who keeps fighting the narrative is good. Keeping this alive is good. It means the "move on" crowd can't just keep burying Paterno forever like they want.

I agree we need members of the board who haven't been critical in the past to start thinking and speaking. But it doesn't hurt to have Meyers.

Plus, him sending this email to people who have contacted him shows he cares. How many replies do you think Frazier, Peetz, Surma, Masser... sent?

Hell, I know Keith Masser, I'm friends with his family. He knows my relatives. Where he's from is very small. And he and his family just gives us the company line "move on" BS.

You got it...most of us assumed this was the HUGE step and was the end. LOL...when I said every little bit helps above...I meant this email was the end of the sanctions. Maybe if the BOT just shuts up and prays the lawsuit goes through...it will all magically be better then.

  • Here's something that could make a difference. Maybe not help with the sanctions but would ensure a few powerful people wouldn't railroad our university again.

  • Joel, My response to you is as follows; Too little too late. Your board and yourself included allowed the University to commission a man of suspect credentials in my opinion. He fabricated and inferred his way through thousands of documents and concluded that Coach Paterno fostered an environment that allowed the horrific abuse to occur. Mind you this, Mr. Freeh reached these conclusions without speaking to the principal members involved in the alleged cover-up. He after the Paterno report was released flat out lied stating that coach Paterno was unwilling to speak to his group. Apparently he did not even read his own report because according to the info I have at hand, Coach Paterno agreed to meet with the Freeh group and unfortunately he died before an interview could be conducted. I have so many more questions than answers. Where is the supposed transparency, why did Karen Peetz promise town hall meeting yet none have been conducted? Why was a man who dedicated his entire life to the University not given the benefit of doubt? Why was there no open discussion between the powers that be and coach Paterno before he was fired over the phone? Why was he fired over the phone? Why has Garban not been heard from? What is the board hiding? Why was Sandusky allegedly in the President's box for coach Paterno's historic final game?
As far as Freeh seeming credible did not one of you on the board ask questions about his back ground? Not one? Apparently you were unaware about the soccer debacle? The botching of the Olympic bombing case? Honestly for such a supposed collection of brilliant, well spoken people your collective common sense registers about a zero on a scale of one to ten. Who recommended Freeh was it Frasier from his dealings with Mr. Freeh and the Vioxx fiasco? Did you know Vioxx killed more people than US servicemen died in Vietnam? 59,000 people died due to vioxx and the general public knows nothing about the magnitude or sheer numbers killed. AH Mr Freeh, a man I would want in my corner when the University's survival hangs in the balance. I would have thought that perhaps a little more research would have been put forth to protect the university rather than RUSHING TO JUDGEMENT AND HIRING A HACK in my opinion.

Why did the board not ask more questions re the Sandusky matter when it was first brought to light? As a BOT member it is your job to protect the interests of the University. I do not for a second believe that earlier last year there was no knowledge within the board itself considering the grand jury proceeding were taking place. I do not believe it sir. SO Broadhurst asked no questions, Garban asked no questions, your former fearless leader Karen Peetz asked no questions, Dr Suhey asked no questions, YOU asked no questions? No one asked any questions, unbelievable. The board runs the University like the local thrift store. It is just unreal to me. SO to you I say nice email, too little too late. On a personal note I will never forgive you or any of the other cowards on the board at the time this entire debacle has occurred. I am not moving on, we are not moving on. I am seeking the truth, we are seeking the truth. Truth crushed to earth will rise again the eternal years of God are hers.

  • I will attempt to answer your questions...

Where is the supposed transparency, why did Karen Peetz promise town hall meeting yet none have been conducted?

    BOT is a POS

Why was a man who dedicated his entire life to the University not given the benefit of doubt?

    BOT is a POS

Why was there no open discussion between the powers that be and coach Paterno before he was fired over the phone?

BOT is a POS and Surma family vendetta... actually if Surma's nephew didn't play for Paterno probably none of this would have happend. John Surma's brother puclicly stated he was going to publicly humiliate Joe Paterno, where was that in the Freeh report?

Why was he fired over the phone?

    BOT is a POS

Why has Garban not been heard from?

    He is a POS

    What is the board hiding?

Surma family Venetta, their own connections to Sandusky, potential child prostitution ring, our money being funneled to their friends, Freeh's contract, Rodney Erickson's interpretation of events, the fact that ALL of them allowed Sandusky to roam free on campus all those years

Why was Sandusky allegedly in the President's box for coach Paterno's historic final game?

    BOT is a POS

As far as Freeh seeming credible did not one of you on the board ask questions about his back ground?

LOL! This one is a funny question because the answer is simply Ken Frazier. Ken has very deep ties to Freeh totalling millions and millions of dollars for Freeh

Apparently you were unaware about the soccer debacle? The botching of the Olympic bombing case?

Didn't matter. Ken Frazier and him are buddies.

Honestly for such a supposed collection of brilliant, well spoken people your collective common sense registers about a zero on a scale of one to ten.

Remember their agenda was to cover their asses and throw Paterno under the bus to justify their actions. What better man for the job than a known liar and someone who never ran a competent investigation.

Who recommended Freeh was it Frasier from his dealings with Mr. Freeh and the Vioxx fiasco?

    Ken Frazier

Did you know Vioxx killed more people than US servicemen died in Vietnam?

Don't care when there are millions and millions of dollars are involved
