Link to the video is in the article as well. Glad this guy got jail time, I hope he's banned from coaching forever. Tripping a 10 year old and 13 year old after losing gold medal game. 13 year old was said to have a broken wrist potentially.

  • Sad thing is, there will always be coaches AND parents that take their youth sports WAYYYYY too seriously, leading too lots of douchebaggery.

    CharlestonLion

  • Also, I love how this coach told the police that he 'slipped', causing he opposing players to fall, when in the video he is caught taunting the two kids by pointing at them after the fall has already occurred. This guy is the perfect example of not thinking before reacting.......gee, maybe no one is video taping the celebration at the end of the game.......yeh right!

Very true, lion. I coached jr high football for a number of years for the district I work in and this sort of thing came up all the time. You're damned if you do, damned if you don't. You either have an opposing parent or coach or even one of your own parents acting like an idiot for the stupidest of reasons. Worst yet, most likely this clown falls into this category, often the biggest jerks go out and sign up to be a coach themselves. These clown forget what sport is about, if they ever knew.

His team actually WON the game, which makes it even more confusing. He got 15 days in jail and has apparently lost his wife and several jobs (he's a contractor, I believe).

  • Saw it on ESPN this morning. It happened in June and he was just sentenced to 15 days in jail. His lawyer claims he was off him medication. PSUjmc is correct, the tool lost everything. He was also a scout master and got booted for that as well.

You can be upset in private or have an adult conversation with another coach, etc., but that is just uncalled for. I dont see medication being the reason someone does something like that.

He was off his medication that told him it was not right to trip a ten year old? Never heard of that brand before!

Sounds like he has had a lot of built up frustration. That being said, after losing so much, I would hope he would have some regrets at this point.

  • 2 minutes for tripping...headed to the sin bin and 15 days of prison....

    Goalieman688

  • I agree, that's not an excuse. Just reported it. That has to be the most used excuse in the world of crime.

How about, if he is on meds to control his behavior, then he shouldn't be coaching kids in the first place.
