Gunner Kiel to transfer from Notre Dame

  • Maybe he should give that Anzalone kid a call

  • I feel for him, but at this point I just don't see him doing much in college. Hope he can get a good degree somewhere.

  • The kid has never played in college. Why don't you see him working out anymore.

That would be like me saying that I don't think akeel lynch has a playing career ahead of him.

I do. He'll have 3 years of eligibility left, and with his talent, that's more than enough time to develop. I'm assuming he'll go to Indiana and be a stud there starting in 2014.

lols... I have nothing against this kid but once he went from Indiana to LSU I thought he was looking for the wrong things. IDK. If he would have stuck with IU I think he would have been much happier, he definitely would have played. Good luck to him.

On a side note this is kinda my biggest fear with Hack. Say he sits and readshirts and Ferguson or bench go out and light it up. Can't bench the kid then for a RS freshmen. I suppose you can but it would be a balls move for Kelly to pull Gholston after leading them to the NC game. Would hack still be happy if he didn't start until his JR year?

  • Maybe he'll develop, but given the fact that he's already switched commitments/schools as many times as he has, I'd question his mental fortitude. Barton Simmons even noted it when Kiel switched to Notre Dame, that players who flip as many times as he did have a much lower success rate.

As long as BOB plays the best QB we have every year, I don't care if Hack ever plays if there are better QBs in the system. We don't know if Hack will be able to adjust to the college game or not so it is a waste of energy to worry about how he will fit in to the starting lineup.

I don't feel sorry for him at all. The way he handled his recruitment was pathetic.

Same. Makes a lot of sense. Probably should have stayed committed there in the first place.

Kid has a lot of talent. Wouldn't hold his commitment stuff against him. He sounded pretty sincere with some of the comments he's made about how his recruitment was handled. He certainly wouldn't be leaving ND if Golson weren't a freshman this past year.

    Gunner Kiel, I'll say it...

I have serious questions on whether or not Gunner will be successful on the next level. We made him a 5star and theres no going back on tha

  • I can still see him being successful somewhere else, but he should have stayed at Indy.

My guess he transfers to Robert Morris and bumps Paul Jones from the starting spot.

  • He should've stuck with his original commitment to Indiana.

  • If I'm not mistaken one of the reasons Gunner decided not to go to Indiana was that his brother Dusty was a QB there. I remember reading that he did not want to compete with his brother for playing time as they played the same position. I do feel for the kid and hope where ever he ends up he is successful. Let's remember that these are 18 yr old kids making these decisions with a lot of people in their ears. Also, I'm not sure why everyone keeps saying he will end up at Indiana as Tre Robinson (true sophomore next year) ended up being pretty good. Gunner would be going into the same situation if he lands at Indiana that he has at ND.

You do realize its a 17 year old kid ... It certainly wasn't the greatest recruiting story, but I think you are being a little too harsh.

I agree that we should try to refrain from being too harsh in our language some times, but the point that they're only 17 year old kids doesn't hold water in my book. They're ALL 17 year olds when they go through this process.... and most don't act like entitled d-bags. Some do, and I have no problem calling them out. They should learn lessons from those who came before them, but when's the last time a 17 year old listened to anyone older than him about how not to do something?

Re Kiel, he made a "mistake" when he committed too soon to his home state team IU. He should have learned from that mistake and not committed again until he was 110% sure. But then to pull the 11th hour switch.... he had to know that undue attention and scrutiny were going to come his way.

I don't wish him any ill-will, but I can say I blame anyone else who still harbors a grudge--especially those from LSU.

I thought about both school earlier.... certainly Wisconsin's MO is now to get these types of kids. But, if you're Indiana, would you take him back? The obvious answer is yes, because he helps your team, presumably. But if I'm the HC at IU, I would say no thanks. IU will NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN get a highly ranked player to remain committed to them if they start to accept back those who commit early on and then chose greener pastures. Because, if you're the next Gunner Kiel, you just commit early to IU to lock up a spot as a SOPH. or JUNIOR and then work the recruiting process until you get the offers you really want. And then, heck, if it doesn't work out in the SEC or at ND, OSU, UM, etc., you can always transfer back to IU.

  • When I read Bruce Feldman's story that a large FBS coach declined interest from Kiel, am I the only one who thought it could have been Penn State? Kid looks around, sees a QB situation with some inexperience, sees a coach who is known for developing QB's, sees a program others may be down on, and thinks it may be a good fit. And it would be just as fitting when BOB said no because that is not the type of kid he wants in the program.
