But how much is Penn State recruiting affected by 7-on-7 teams because aren't most of these teams from Florida and Texas where we usually don't get kids.
I agree it could become a problem, but I'm curious what prompted him to write about this.

It's creeping up North slowly. Baltimore has a team with some highly touted kids who will be coming to PSU. The only issue I have with this is that it will slowly turn into coaches pimping their players like AAU coaches do. Pretty soon just like in b-ball those coaches will decide where the 7 go and it will depend upon a fee for that coach.

The "AAU-inization" is a very bad influence. QB's are throwing in silly scenarios. Receivers have the advantage of no anticipated contact (or recall of a recent hit). Way too much showboating and bravado. Has ZERO application towards a real game other than general accuracy practice for the qb and coverage/route reps for the Defense/Offense.
Several QB's in this area are 7-7 stars in their minds. Their recent performances on the field really demonstrate that under pressure they are overwhelmed mentally and physically.
Not a fan of the NCAA but they should jump on this.

Great article by Jay on the new 7 on 7 trend
