Gottlieb giving it to Kiffin and Beckman on ESPN Radio

Called him a dirty dog for not calling PSU. Then a dirty dog recruiting their best player when they were just on probation. Then stated how they may have to yank a ship from a current kid to do this. He went on to talk about Emmert's remarks about integrity when he slammed PSU and how hypocritical this whole situation was. He then called out Beckman and the imaginary line outside of campus he drew up. Gotlieb has said all along this wasn't a NCAA matter and has been overly fair to PSU.

  • Just listening to Fox Sports Radio in Denver, still weird how I get all this PAC 12 talk instead of Big 12, and the PAC 12 guys stated Lame Kitten was in Connecticut selling how they would use Si at SC. They also stated Si would be crazy to go because he probably would not be the feature back as has been said before on our boards.

Then Gotlieb is misinformed...Lane did call PSU and informed him they were going to recruit Silas...We don't have to yank a ship...we have one available, we will just take 17 that we have committed now for 2013 and Silas will be our 18th. We have a need for him, if he wants to come, we will welcome him with open arms, if he does or doesn't, we will be rooting for your team for years to come.

Where were all these talking heads when this was happenning too us for two years? I didn't hear a peep from Gotlieb and his chronies about the slimey coaches trying to recruit our players away...(Dooley being the worst..he offered everyone of our Juniors and Seniors, even if he didn't have a need for them...now that's sleazy)At least PSU has a time limit to when this will cease, we had to deal with it for 2 years, no breaks.

When are these so called journalist ever going to be held accountable for their misinformation. They just pull things out of their asses to see what sticks...what's really sad is that most of it does stick, because people are to lazy to seek the truth.

I am with you Penn State, I want you to get through this with flying colors, and then I hope you flip the NCAA the bird when you do.

So you have 1 ship left? Yet everyone is reporting you are full once your last RB recruit clears? So Lane was trying to find out from the NCAA if he could go over the limit of 75 you are currently under because why? Anything you can point me (and maybe ESPN) to that actually lists your scholarship roster?

Last RB recruit?....when you say everyone, who is everyone...We, USC, know how many recruits we have and we have 16 verbal commits right now hopefully Hatcher will make 17 ( we can give 15 this year plus 3 early EE that will count for last year) Yeah he was finding out because 76 is greater than 75 if it was allowed...but it wasn't, so we will just take the 17 plus Silas if he comes. You can go our 247 site and figure it out if you don't believe me.

And for Lajolla...Lane notified PSU Monday evening, it was reported by ESPN and other news outlets, if O'Brien forgot to mention Lane, that's on him..

    You raise a great point.

BECAUSE Kiffin has had to deal with this, he realizes that other coaches didn't - Nor were required - to check in with him before speaking to USC players.

Your anger is understandable, but misplaced. It appears that your coach and fan base is trying to redefine appropriate behavior under these circumstances.

"After signing a national letter of intent with Notre Dame, Gottlieb was their starting point guard during the 1995-1996 college basketball season, starting all but the first four games and leading the team with 154 assists (against only 70 turnovers) as well as steals and minutes played. However, Gottlieb's stint at Notre Dame would be short. During Gottlieb's freshman year, he was charged with stealing credit cards from a roommate and fraudulently charging over $900 to those cards; Gottlieb has since stated that, after paying back the $900, he was allowed to leave Notre Dame."

I thought the kid they were still waiting on the clearing house was an RB, turns out he's a WR. From what I have read USC can't go over the limit this year and that is the issue; Hatcher is a 2013 recruit, so it wouldn't matter for this season. I'm trying to use your math and it isn't working. If Rogers makes makes 75 then Rogers + Silas makes 76. 76 isn't allowed by the NCAA so either you cut someone's scholarship or you cut someone's scholarship for 2012.

You keep referring to EEs, but your issue is you have to be at 75 for 2012, and Silas would count this year because of your current sanctions (or at least that is how it is being portrayed). Might want to get a note over to some of your fan sites as well (SC Register) since I have read on a few sites outside of ESPN and OC that you are already at 75 for this year if Rogers qualifies. I'm not sure who is reading it right at this point.

    Financial Aid Limitations:
A school subject to scholarship limits due to an infractions case is allowed to accept transfers from Penn State but cannot exceed the scholarship limits specified in its infractions report. Athletically-related financial aid may not be canceled during the period of the award and these schools are not permitted the same exception allowed to schools not under Committee on Infractions sanctions.

The Exception (which USC reportedly would not be eligible for):
If a student-athlete transfers for the fall of 2012 to a school that has reached its scholarship limits, the school may exceed these numbers for the 2012-13 academic year, provided it reduces such limits proportionately in the 2013-14 academic year. For example, if one student-athlete transfers to a Division I school already at the legislated limits of 25 initial counters and 85 overall counters for 2012-13, the school will be limited to 24 initial counters and 84 overall counters in 2013-14.

Helen of Troy isn't stating all the facts.

Darreus Rogers is on the fence on getting into USC by Fall Camp. He needs 3 A's to even have the GPA to qualify to get into USC, if he doesn't, he has to take some fall classes to fix his grades. He had 3 classes he took at a secondary school which wasn't qualified by NCAA Clearinghouse. He was suppose to be on campus by June, he hasn't enrolled yet and is the last recruit to get on campus.

The issue here is that Darreus Rogers summer school ends MIDWAY through Summer Camp. He would enroll at school roughly at the start of the season, which is ridiculous to have a kid redshirt then play scout team the entire off-season. Kiffin has the option of telling D.Rogers to greyshirt because he's already missed most of camp, greyshirt until January, which would free up a schollie for Silas Redd.

    Kiffin has the option of using a schollie from a walk-on or an 2 of the injured players who are out for the season *THIS IS NOT CONFIRMED, but I'VE READ THIS IS A POSSIBILITY* (Devon Kennard for example). Devon Kennard (True Senior DE, Pac12 Second team) gives us the luxury because he's 1 class away from getting his masters in grad school, he doesn't need to be on campus while he's in the initial stages of rehab.;

He's out for the season, his schollie is a waste for this upcoming fall because he's not doing anything but rehabbing, attending his 1 grad class and random elective classes that won't count for anything for his masters, and he's returning in 2013 after he's rehabbed his torn pec. He could essentially sit out the season and the fall at home, come back in the Spring for his rehab, help his team in the process, I think Kiffin has already talked to Devon about this possibility this evening.

There are PLENTY of options, in any case, no one from USC will be mad if Kiffin does what it takes to get Si Redd on campus. Majority of our walk-ons come from privileged families.

    Example,
Last year's 2nd string QB, Johnny Manoogian, his dad is a major producer for NBC. Another walk-on, Emos Saes, his parents are oil fund multi-millionaires from Lebanon. Heck, Matt Barkley's parents own a law firm. USC is not the University of Spoiled Children for no reason.
