  • I would want to stay the course too if I was Gee. My school would have broken clearly drawn NCAA rules, and had their hand slapped. One of my chief rivals would have broken no rule of any kind and been given the harshest penalty in NCAA history. Why would he want anything but to stay the course?

  • All you need to know is this part of the article...

"Mr. Gee was in town to accept an award from the American Council on Education for his work as a mentor for prospective future college leaders. Years ago he served as a mentor to Mr. Emmert, who was associate vice chancellor of academic affairs at the University of Colorado in the late 1980s while Mr. Gee was president there."

Thanks for molding Emmert into being such a POS Gee. Way to go.

So once again, the apple doesn't fall far from the f'n tree. This should be a barometer of the "penalties".

This has been my experience as well. My father is an OSU grad and he thinks Gee needs to stop talking as he does more damage than good when he opens his mouth.

  • Gee is famous for saying something along the lines of him being concerned that Tressel would have fired him and not the other way around ... we all know what has happened since.

Seems like an idiot, but that thought of mine is based on other things besides this latest article.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

Gee might also be POd that Corbett's lawsuit used that exact quote as an example to tear down the NCAA statement that PSU alone has a football culture "problem".

Also, in before this thread gets inundated with Buckeyes to tell us how horrible we are.

One of the foundations of the PA suit is that PSU was treated differently than other schools. Like ANY organization there is uneven power and bias among members. O$U broke absolutely clear NCAA rules without question and tried to conceal it. The NCAA worked with O$U and allowed their players to play in the Sugar bowl AFTER all this happened and serve their suspension to start the following year. Of course Gee likes the NCAA as they are... he is in a position to make back room deals that BENEFIT his university in the face of sanctions while other schools like PSU have back room deals forced on them that HARM their university.

To be fair to OSU, the NCAA allowed their players to play in the bowl game and then vacated the win later because those players participated. It's laughable and confusing all at the same time, but it perfectly illustrates the pathetic state of affairs in the NCAA.

even more sign of corruption. The NCAA allowed them to play which was advocated for by OSU, the BigTen, and even the Sugar Bowl president. Everyone with a stake in the $$$ from this game wanted them to play and didn't want the rest of the news out until after it was over. Once that happened and everyone got paid, they finished their investigation and vacated the win. what a crock.

Absolutely. If the NCAA had any integrity, they would have just ruled them ineligible and that would be that. It was a clear violation. Give the players a chance to pay back the value of the tats; if they do, they are eligible, if not, they sit out. It's simple, but then again, the NCAA next makes things hard even if they are black and white.

You mean the clown that said on national TV after the NCAA imposed sanctions ... "I was afraid Coach Tressel was going to fire me?" What a joke.

They showed their colors when they knew about all of that OSU stuff and purposely allowed those players to play so that their bowl game and TV ratings, etc would still be in tact or greater than if they didn't play.

I'll take the weasel eight days a week!!!

One thing this entire mess has shown is that playing by the "rules" does NOT pay. You break 'em and if you're caught, first stonewall it and then payout big $$$ to get yourself off as light as possible. In this case, schmooze the NCAA guy in charge. I know that's not the Penn State way, but we've seen what the Penn State way got us. Take off the gloves boyz and girlz, this ain't your grandpas times.

He's a bit of a moron when he starts to weigh in on sports, but he has done some incredible things for Ohio State.

Our Med Center was the number one research university hospital one year. He has done a lot to push green initiatives. He was instrumental in building a new and amazing library and student union. He has pushed hard to clean up off campus housing through residential development which has led to a decrease in the crime rate and higher off campus housing standards. He's amazing with the students and faculty. There are many more things he has done for the University as a whole.

Sure he's an idiot when it comes to sports, but he's our idiot and we can put up with that.

I agree. What was his incentive? I can't believe a doctor would jeopardize his career, his license, and/or possible lawsuits/jail time for nothing. Makes me wonder what the NCAA gave him?
