Garrity vs. Switzer?

Switzer is the way better prospect.

And we'll find out who the better player is in 4-5 years.

IMO, Switzer is a shorter and slower version of Sam McGuffie and I expect his BCS contributions to be about the same. I was never enamored with him as a prospect. Switzer plays in WV where the competition level is below single A PA football. No one should be losing sleep over losing Switzer and to the topic, I would take Garrity sans scholarship over Switzer on scholarship every day of the week.

McGuffie as a freshman showed a lot of promise between Rich Rod and three concussion...I can't blame the kid for transferring home. Once he transfered home, he was a solid player for Rice. If Switzer puts up similar numbers that will be a hit for UNC because he is only a 3* kid. McGuffie is only a bust because he was the next coming as a high 4* kid.

I love Garrity as much as the next guy (I think he has Norwood potential), but there is no guarantee that he will succeed either. Its not a lock. At worst, like I said, I think Switzer will be a good returner.

McGuffie was also a RB while Switzer isn't. I don't think that is a good comparison.

But was Switzer THAT much better to cost us a valuable scholarship when we could get Garrity to run on? Pre sanctions, I definitely would've wanted Switzer, but given our current situation, it may have been for the best

This. Garrity a great value and alternative to Switzer IMHO.

  • Honestly, GRS, these are the kind of threads that fans of other teams would laugh at. I think I know what you're getting at, but comparing a 140 pound walk-on to a high 3* kid isn't the way to go about it.

Richy Anderson would be a much better comparison. If I remember correctly, when we were recruiting Switzer, people were talking about him playing both WR and RB, kind of a utility guy.

McGuffie just got so much pub for doing this..........

I worked with an Aggie who was visibly depressed the day he declared for Michigan. He really reached legend status down here in HS.

I know, my point was more that the OP made it seem like McGuffie was just a subpar BCS-level player. He was playing solid for a freshman, especially before the concussions hit. If I was a UNC fan that is all I can ask from a 3* kid....is to play solidly.
