Garrett Gilbert will transfer

  • Would anyone take him here at PSU? He showed some good things early in his career... But he needs some work. lol As do McGloin and Bolden... Just wondering what people think of the kid...

  • If Jay's here it's just hopeless....

If you have a good QB coach he could be a good pickup. I could see him making a Brantley like turnaround with the right coach. He obviously showed his talent in the mNC game.

  • I don't think I'd take him. He hasn't done any better than what we have.

Texas has poor QB coaching then? McCoy seems to be doing OK and same with Ash.

I'm not a fan of Jay, but this is a pile on the coaching staff and Jay year. I guess last year was as well despite starting a true freshman and a former walk on.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

Every year is a pile on jay and the coaching staff year for me

  • Honestly, I would.

He has way more talent than Bolden, and has actually played well in a big game before. His issue is mental, not physical. Once the fanbase turned on him in Austin, which was basically after UCLA, it was over. There was almost no chance he could recover. Its tough to perform at a high level when you're being booed in your own stadium, chanting things like "Gilbert Sucks, Gilbert Sucks."

Unfortunately, he had way too many expectations thrust on him after the MNC game, and turned out to not be Tom Brady.

With the way our QBs have played, I'd still take him over what we've seen so far.

And for those saying he wasn't well coached, Bryan Harsin had spring ball with him and fall camp, and as far as I'm concerned he is one of the finest QB developers in the country.

‏@Cordale10 Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS

  • I was never trying to infer Texas had been bad coaching. Like Texas Lion basically said, he just needs a fresh start.

  • Don't care either way. Not like Penn State would go after him. Who was the last transfer that we:
    a. Got?
    b. Went after?
    c. Showed any interest?

    It's Gilbert, BTW.

    We Are...Penn State!

  • 5 Star QB with all the tools around him... national powerhouse school, great recruits, great coaches, cannon arm, school pumped out successful college qb's (applewhite, simms, young, mccoy) and the kid was a disaster. Just another reason what you've done in the past and your potential doesn't matter, it's what you do on the field now. Mr. Bolden better take note because with as much hype as his son came into PSU with it can turn quickly and your left packing your bags and going to a school like SMU (where gilbert is rumored to go). He better tell his son to step it up because if not he'll have a much shorter trip to see his son play on saturdays at Western Michigan.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

Jay would screw up Steve Young, Joe Montana or pick your hall of famer. No way Gilbert would improve under his direction.

  • Reporting in from Austin here and not far from Garrett's home, watched this kid in HS and college, wouldn't want this kid leading my team. NFL pedigree, all the physical tools, no head for the game, more importantly for competing and winning. Kid spends weekends at home with parents and high school girlfriend, may not think that's an issue, but he isn't bonding with the team, and is a momma's boy -- even was asked last year if he thought this was his team, he responded, "no, it's the Senior's team". Was at the BYU game when he got yanked, he wasn't pissed, in fact I think he seemed more happy/comfy with the headset on than the helmet. The offense turned around miraculously, Case walked in was quoted later as saying something to the effect of, we all have been here before, we know what to do, let's get it done, and they did. Reminds me of Bolden or Morelli, you just keep expecting more by looking at them, but it just doesn't get done. Not a fighter, not a winner, doesn't pick up the game well. Now I will say that the O he ran in HS is very different from Texas, much more of a read option, spread, quick pass offense, he had a primary receiver and exceedingly good talent, and he could work in that system, but in a game that moves much more on an even talent keel, it just wasn't there.
