UMMM ... isn't there a rule in place that says a potential new school has to geographically border another member institution? Which BIG state borders Georgia for this to happen, unless the BIG throws out one of its rules - which is entirely possible since the NCAA certainly has.

Nobody may like it, but regardless of where our conference is at, if Notre Dame comes to the B1G and says they want in they will get in. They are worth that much.
In a related matter, this well could be the end game that forces their hand. The B1G takes MD and Rutgers. Then the B12 (who wants to grow badly so they can get a championship game back) throws the bank at FSU and Clemson (maybe even taking VA and VATech). The SEC grabs GTech and somebody else (Miami?). All of a sudden, ND's affiliation with the ACC isn't worth crap and they are forced to fully join a conference. When that time comes, no conference makes more sense for them than the B1G. So ND an BC join as the 15th and 16th teams. What's left of the ACC will join with the Big East in a basketball conference.
Maryland may seem insignificant, but once the first hole pops up in the dam...I expect FSU to bail. It's no secret they are interested in other opportunities. When FSU jumps, the ACC will disintegrate very quickly.
When the dust settles, the B1G network is entrenched in Baltimore/DC, NY/NJ and Boston and has the national appeal of ND. This is the vision I would imagine is going through Delaney's head.

My understanding is the Big Ten will never again ask Notre Dame to join, after asking multiple times before, so if ND is to join, they will have to approach the BIG and be willing to include football. Does anyone think ND will be able to swallow their pride and their self serving to ask the BIG to "please" take them?
I'm not sure they can see the past their own admiration.

JoePa was the first to publicly come out with an effND sentiment. He lobbied for more eastern schools in the B1G and after his death, he's getting his wish. Not unlike Joe effing Syracuse and Pitt for kiboshing his dream of an Eastern all sports conference. The ADs at the time at both Pitt and Sorryexcuse didn't want to share BB money with Penn State, but the greedy batsturds were willing to share our FB money. Hindsight is 20-20 and after a quarter-century I still say eff Pitt and eff Sorryexcuse.

Ga Tech instead of Rutgers...?
