Personally, I would prefer Rutgers and Georgia Tech over Maryland. But is GT an AAU member?

AAU or not, it's a much more prestigious school than either UMD or Rutgers.

Edit: not surprised that it is.

Btw this is something, I believe, JT$ mentioned yesterday. There is a reason NJ is 14th, we're going to hear about more folks trying to jump in over them. MD is in if they want (vote isn't final yet apparently), but I think we'll see some grabbing for #14.

Part of me feels like the B1G was hoping to get schools to compete for a 14th spot (pure speculation on my point, of course).

If GT is able to get in, it sure makes all of our recent recruiting work in Georgia look like a damn good investment.

You would think so on the surface but a lot of southerners have been saying that UGA rules all down in Georgia.

IMO, if Maryland joins, I see the B1G taking a step back and assessing to see which programs want to join and which may bring the most benefits.

Were is GTech going to get the $50 million? I believe MD has yet to sign the contract so they aren't on the hook for the $50 million until 1/1/2013?

Just read an article from the Maryland site that said the top targets for the B1G are Virginia and North Carolina and that this move by the B1G is being driven by demographics and wanting to add TV sets.

That's a helluva article overal JT$. Some interesting links off of it too. Maryland could gain approx $16m in athletic revenues per year? Whoa.

But I think the B1G could have done better, but they're forcing the issue. VT would have been a good option, geographically and football wise. They even get people to show up to their games, unlike the rest of the ACC.

ND could be banished to the faraway moon of the Big 12 if the ACC collapses. That would be what they looking at if they decided not to end their little rebellion against the B1G.

Penn State will go to the ACC. IT IS WHAT Penn Sate wants.
