Future PSU wrestler

  • Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a four-time Pennsylvania state champion wrestler from Derry Area HS named Jimmy Gulibon (career record 136-4). He has committed to come to PSU next year. On Sunday he is wrestling a four-time state champ from Iowa (career record 186-1) in PIttsburgh. The other kid has committed to Iowa. Should be awesome. Would be nothing greater than a "We are" chant in Pitt's gym as Gulibon pins the Iowa kid!!!

  • Can't wait for Jimmy to get in the room with Cael IIRC there's only 10 wrestlers to ever do the same thing in PIAA history. Speaking of very close family friend has an opportunity to do the same thing. He's a sophomore and hasn't lost a match yet. His names Chance Marsteller from Kennard Dale he's been to numerous football games with us and each time my parents and hI'm meet with Cael and Cody. The Iowa match they took him from our seats and he got to sit with the team on the bench with the Sandersons.

Penn State 7x National Champs, home of the winningest college football coach to ever grace a sideline.

  • Jimmy is a beast. Only lost a few matches in HS, 1 to Megaludis by a point when he went up a weight class to wrestle Nico. Can't wait to see a kid from my HS wrestling at PSU.

I assume he's as much a "lock" as a sophomore can be at this time?

Actually, the talk is that he might want to skip college altogether and make an olympic run or two. Plus he is apparently very close with Cary Kolat, who is the coach at North Carolina, I believe.

His family situation at this point isn't the best so initially he was thinking about traveling he mentioned ASU for awhile. He's since calmed from that this entire summer he trained in Colorado with the Olympic team and didn't like being away from home so you never know. He will certainly have his choice and Cael has done his part at this point.

  • My wife teaches at derry so I have seen Jimmy wrestle a couple of times. Kid is good. Can't wait to see him wrestle for the blue and white. He won the state title in AAA twice then Derry moved to AA and he won the title two more times. Good luck Jimmy againt the Iowa kid sunday.

  • Cael is stocking the shelves with quality kids to keep the national championships coming. What weight class would this commit fill?

  • Chance is a freak like Taylor.....a prodigy.......................gulibon will be an AA when he hits the mat......i hope either he or mega will make the jump to 133 next season bit i don't see it with mega.....

  • I went to high school one town over & my mom also teaches at Derry so I have been able to see him wrestle a few times. He doesn't immediately strike you as a big or dominant kid because of his smaller stature but when he is on the mat he is an absolute beast. I think he even won one of the state titles with an injury or illness as I recall... might have just been the WPIAL tournament though but still, that's quite impressive. Truly exhilarating to watch and a real class act. I hear he's a really good kid & deserves every bit of success he has achieved.

  • I'm pulling for John Rizzo. His brother is one of my best friends. We used to grow up calling John "Fat John" because he was a big kid growing up for his age. He is still a big kid now but I would not dare anyone call him "Fat John" as he is one of the strongest (and has been) high school athletes I have seen.

Check out this excellent video on his journey from a kid to this past PIAA championship.

He wants to play fball in college and he is a heckuva player. I sent LJ and O'Brien his film and how he is a model student and leader. Have not heard back, but he is a class of 2012 recruit.
