From what I am hearing about O'Brien

Believe me lurie could care less about the penn state fans or the fan base in general.

Maybe he should worry about the on-field performance of his team..... stir

Or he only fired Reid because of the ignorant fan base. He cares greatly about the fan base as they line his pockets. That's why he wont hire BOB. You wont find one Eagles fan who has him in their top 5 candidates.

I know a Eagles season ticket holder who has Bill as #1 on his wish list. Sorry, but your wrong on that gross generalization. Some Eagles fans do see BOB as an amazing HC with a great off mind.

  • How do we think it will look to the NCAA, and well just about the rest of the country, if we go ponying up money for football coaches? Is there any potential ramifications for doing it? Does the NCAA come back and say we still have a culture problem if we triple his salary one year after we are supposed to be changing the "athletic culture".

I agree that they deserve the money and want to keep BoB and the whole staff in place. But are we able to given the unusual nature and circumstances of the last year?

I know the common answer is going to be...screw the NCAA, and we need to pay top dollar to keep top coaches, but we already know the AD and BoT are not exactly on our side when it comes to these things right now. I think we all agree that we want Bob and want him and the staff paid, but I am not sure that they can or will do it.

Irrelevant. There's no rules against coaching salaries. There's no real backlash against that.

What is the NCAA going to do about it? If paying a coach too much is suddenly a violation, then there's a lot of teams they'll have to go after.

I do find it ironic that it seems the NCAA's sanctions have created a situation where the coach has a lot of power...exactly the scenario they railed against. Sigh.

Great you know one guy. I never said Bob was a bad coach, but He would not be a good hire for the Eagles though. They need someone who can command the respect of the primadonnas on the roster. Bob does not offer that..

He fired Reid because the fans finally went over the top in their frustrations. If he listened to the fans, Andy would have been gone a while ago, and he certainly would not have survived the 2011 season. Lurie follows the money, not the fans. If he thinks BOB is a bad business decision, he won't hire him. I'm not sure that BOB would be bad for business, but who am I to say that, that's what Lurie will want to figure out for himself.

Lurie would not let fans even watch if he thought it were good for business. He's a bottom line guy, and he will determine which coach is best for his bottom line.

Pissed off fans are terrible for business. If he hires BOB he will find this out. This year fans still showed up better than they should have. An unpopular hire could change that real quickly.

If the Eagles win it won't matter. Sure, there will be some diehard PSU fans that opt out, but winning cures all ills. Hiring another coach who goes 4-12 is what would be really bad for business.

This is really scary, let's hope Jones is right that even $9.2 million puts the Eagles out of the running. I can't believe BOB would leave his players high and dry like this. And let's hope he has no interest in Arizona since it looks like Reid is going to KC.

    An Actual Lion

  • Look at any NFL site that is describing who is interviewing at each available position. There have been actual interviews made by teams all over the country of prospective coaches. These coaches and their handlers are actually admitting to them being interviewed, or it is known that a team is asking another for permission to interview said candidate. With the availability of 8 head coaching positions in the NFL, speed to fill each teams position is going to be key to get the man that you want. With this being said and seeing that out of the positions open, I only really see BOB leaving for one of the better positions available,(eagles, bears, chargers?) and with the availability of Lovie Smith, Chip Kelly, Ken Wisenhunt, Gruden(maybe?) etc. all being available It is hard to see a scenario where one of those teams head coaching jobs will be left available. I am not saying that it is a done deal he is staying but I find it hard to imagine the longer that we don't see a true definitive interview confirmed by sources the better chance he is staying.

I get what you're saying and dont really disagree . Okay lemme change the question a bit. Do you, or others for that matter, think BOB is a better offensive coach than Andy Reid?

I would take almost anyone over Reid, but definitely BOB.

  • I'm an Eagles fan, but if they hire Bob, I'd probably be done. I've been an Eagles fan for a long time, but if they do that to Penn State and their fans after everything that has happened over the last year, I'll never be able to respect Lurie and the men running the Eagles again. I'll hate Bob for leaving after one year, when he preached loyalty and unity. I guess I'd just root for my wife's team, the Broncos. Maybe, this makes me a bad fan, but I love Penn State much more than I do the Eagles. I emailed the Eagles something like this, not that they care, but its how I feel.

No, Andy Reid has had incredible success at the NFL level, NFC championships, division titles, a superbowl.... Bill O'Brien has an 8-4 record in one year at PSU and a good run as Patriots OC but worse than his two predecessors Weis and McDaniels.

  • Sean Fitz's sources think he's gonna saty..........Miller's sources think he's getting ready to leave...

I've learned from the very recent past not to take any "insider" or "sources" very seriously.

All we can do is wait and see, no one knows what BOB's thinking even if they claim to do.

Based upon the limited sample we have seen from BOB I would say yes.

My money is on Mr. Fitz. By far the most VIP bang for your buck.
