The drama here and on the other boards the last couple of weeks has been both laughable and infuriating. O'Brien played this perfectly, and anyone who thinks he had any true intention of leaving is a blind fool. The majority in this board recognized that from the beginning, but some of you just cant help yourselves. EVERY SINGLE THING the man has said or done screams that he is here for a few years at the least. He wanted a number of things improved. Salaries for assistants, ticket issues, an assistant for Fitz. Admin said no. He did NOTHING unprofessional or disloyal in the last few weeks. He said nothing while rumors swirled - 90% of what was said in this was pure media speculation. His agent tossed in a few nuggets here and there but nothing substantive. He got what he wanted. What he knows is that he might not have had this opportunity in the next 4-5 years, so he seized it. Meanwhile, please explain to me the "terrible harm" that was done??? Chip Kelly hasn't had any trouble recruiting despite his name being mentioned every year for an NFL job. Peterson and the guy at TCU seem to do all right even though their names are constantly talked about each January.
The reality is that PSU is one of the lead POSITIVE stories during a bowl week in which they didn't play!!! Oh how terrible it is that PSU's coach is being recruited by NFL teams. I'm sure recruits hate that. The accusation that he just didn't "get the offer he wants" is idiotic. Same people who said last year that he took the PSU job because Bellichik didn't like him and was going to fire him and he didn't actually have a shot at the Jax job. John Clayton, Chris Mortensen, Adam Schefter and just about every other NFL analysis disagree with you, morons. This was a power play, plain and simple, not for selfish reasons, but for the betterment of the team and his assistants.
As for the "chaos and turmoil" he created amongst the fanbase, give me a flipping break. The ONLY people in the fanbase freaking out were the small group of chicken littles on this and other message boards, and I promise Obie gives two sh*ts what you think. Wanna know why? Because he knows that your fickle, small-minded brains will forget all this if he is successful - you'll hail him as a hero - just as you'll excoriate him if he isn't.
O'Brien did not one damn thing to deserve criticism. Glad this is over until the next time his name is mentioned and the sky falls again on this board.

Disagree completely.
Do I think OB is hear for the foreseeable future? No. But you can tell by the way the recruits reacted (or didn't in this case) that this was a power play, not a move to leave.
I think he couldn't coach under Joyner anymore and gave them the "its him or me" ultimatum.
