O'Brien is up..

The first thing I did after the 9 a.m. PC on Monday was have a 10 a.m. meeting. I will tell you, No. 1 was I talked about the education they're receiving at Penn State. I talked to their commitment to each other. I talked about the bond they formed with this staff... I talked to them about adversity. I gave them my own personal story about my wife and I and my son jack. Our coaches have stories

The measure of a man is how you overcome adversity. I talked to them about playing 6-7 bowl games a year in front of 107,000 in Beaver Stadium, and I expect there to be 107,000 there."

"We have preached about our ability to get them to the NFL."

"I told them this staff isn't going anywhere."

"I have no idea what schools were on campus, nor do I care. That's about all I have to say on that."

"I can tell you the rules are what they are. It's like NFL free agency without the rules. They can do what they want as long as they tell our compliance office. It is what it is."

Has not spoken with Beckman about his coaches recruiting his players.

"I can tell you that we have a good, tough smart football team in State College. Three of them just walked in the door here. They have a lot of pride in Penn State and a tremendous commitment to each other. We need to make sure we field a competitive football team on Sept. 1"

I have a feeling that BOB is going to be taking the game against Illinois very personally.

"When I took the job, many people told me my offensive line isn't very good. I would beg to differ. We have guys up there, athletic guys there. I've been pleased there. Some guys had a good spring."

"Matt McGloin is our starter, he's tough, he's smart, he's competitive. We have depth at wide receiver, Brown, Robinson, Kenney, Kersey, Evan Lewis is coming back."

"We feel good about the depth at running back with Silas coming back."

Expecting Gerald Hodges to have a big season.

We feel very good about where we are defensively.

Well O'Brien pretty much confirmed that there will be changes to the uniforms. lol

Asked if he was surprised that the Big Ten didn't place limitations on the transfers...

"Nothing surprises me, so no"

On uniforms...

"There's a lot of discussions going on with our football team right now. There's changes that have taken place that have reflected already. Some of the changes people will have to wait and see until Sept. 1."

Right now, no players have informed him that they intend to transfer.

Evan Lewis? Wasn't that the short little fill-in kicker who played receiver? Do you mean Eugene Lewis?

Larry and Ron are very good coaches. We feel good about the chemistry on our staff.

On the negotiations and would you support an appeal...

"I think our Board came out with a statement last night that, as I've said, it's time to move forward. We started doing that Monday at 10 a.m. Over the last 6 months Erickson has had to make some tough decisions and he's made them. Same with Dave Joyner."

I stand by the decisions that they make.
