  • The rules are crazy. I have never contacted or tried to persuade a prospect on twitter, but what if AB hits up his peers on twitter to try to persuade them. Is that a violation is he now considered a booster? Where does the NCAA draw the line. They would almost have to tell all prospects that you can not use twitter. If there is a kid in eighth grade and he tell a prospect on twitter to go to Penn State that is a violation.

The question that needs to be asked is How do you stop this.

  • Again, don't try to convince them to come to your school. Also, if you see a recruit on a street don't convince them to come to your school. Also, if you happen to see a current player don't pay them for a big sack.

You can talk to these people in person or over the internet. They don't have the plague, they aren't lepers. Normal conversation is fine. You just can't convince them to come to your school, pay them or give them free tattoos.

You don't. It's like threatening PSU with LOIC. Not going to happen.

I don't think you get what kind of "trap" that rule is.

  • Still not buying it. You can pretend to be anyone on twitter. I can't see the NCAA proving anything or even being foolish enough to try.

Thats fine. Best case scenario you're pissing our coaching staff off and being a douche who creepily talks to 17the y/o kids.

Not you just the insane jackwagons that do. Including one guy on here who has done it to every recruit and has really caught the staff's eye.

I personally don't do the whole twitter thing and agree with your assessment. I just don't think there is any way for the NCAA to punish a school for something that they can't possibly be expected to have control over. Not going to happen.

  • Honestly I think the NCAA bans twitter in the near future. And don't start with the they can't do that arguement.

  • My question is and continues to be: why do people who are not associated with recruiting services need to contact recruits? I'm unaware of any legitimate reason to begin with. Common sense should govern these decisions for people.

The NCAA has as much of a chance banning twitter, facebook, skype, and hudl profiles as they do telling recruits that mobile phone ownership is against their rules. The NCAA will have to wake up and realize it isn't 1990 and our world is a LOT more socially available and active than it used to be. Telling a player "Come to school X" on twitter is no different than yelling it during their high school games.

Not really. Ncaa has already eliminated text messaging in recruiting only a matter of time before they eliminate twitter and such imo.

And yes it is because you leave a trail when you do it on twitter. For something to be punishable you have to be able to prove it.

Damnit, stop making sense and using facts. Twitter is the future grandpa!!!

  • What the NCAA will more than likely do is punish schools only if they encouraged it, or possibly didn't take reasonable measures to prevent it. They aren't going to punish a school cause some guy named @imadweeb tweeted a recruit and said "William and Mary is going to win a national championship if you come here, please come xoxo."

But if those who should know better start doing it, or the school "encourages" it, they will look into it.

Ehh... The NCAA has no power. All they'll have is some stupid twitter name.

Coaches and boosters only get into trouble for texting, tweeting, or contact in general if the recruit reports it or confirms the communication. The only reason Baylor got into trouble is their star female basketball player reported impermissible texts during her 2008 recruitment almost 4 years ago. Do you really think coaches, boosters, and former players aren't texting recruits because the NCAA says they can't?

You can keep your tweets, texts, and private messages private and the NCAA can do nothing about it. They are powerless as far as social media controls are concerned.

The same NCAA couldn't find free tats, drugs, and tens of thousands of dollars of memorabilia sales in downtown Columbus without the feds for god's sake.

Did you not read the article and do you not understand the definition of a Booster? Did you go to PSU? Have you ever donated to the NLC? If so you are considered a booster.
