Food for Thought

  • I Know Chip Kellys name was brought up here a few times. I was looking at his background. He was never a head coach he was the OC at New Hampshire and then was at Oregon for one year as OC and then was promoted to head coach. All he has done is get his team to three straight BCS. Im not saying O'Brien will be the next Chip Kelly just saying that we couldn't control who they hired but lets give him the chance.

Also we all wanted Mike M but he only has one year hc experience and was a oline coach before that. At least we can say O'Brien has recruited before.

Let me say this, I think the way this thing has been handled is terrible, Penn State has no clue on how to handle the media. I am not justifying the hire I'm just trying to find a silver lining if there is one. Lets hope he keeps LJ or Vandy. Lets hope everyone is wrong and O'Brien does a great job.

  • I think the silence is interesting....really I am not mad about it b/c obviously something is going on. I think O'Brien is trying to determine the staff ASAP so he can have things going (recruiting, etc.) before he starts preparing for playoff game next week. I think he will want most of coaches in place probably by this time Sunday evening....he realizes how big next weekend is and possibly getting some other non-committed or previously interested in PSU in during the same weekend as commitment weekend Jan 13-15. I also think LJ, VAndy are musts (he has to realize that) and he probably will make his pitch to Scrap to stay too (realizes if he wants Alumni, Letterman happy....Associate Head Coach title?).

I think it would be good for PSU to come and at least throw a dog a bone. Oh well...I imagine this is how it used to be before facebook, ESPN, and twitter lol.

I am 100% behind O'Brien and so does everybody else. We need to make PSU a power house....wake this sleeping giant (sorry JoePa but you put us all into a nap...lol).

  • I know a lot of people hate this hire and I must admit I wasn't glowing when it was announced but I think we could have done better and I think we could have done worse. I just look at it this way, he is going to be our coach. Im not going to stop supporting the players that commit to play for this university. So I can either belly ache about the hire or I can give the guy a chance to prove us all wrong. So going forward I am behind him and hopefully everything settles down and the lettermen will get behind him also.

I know he gets compared to Weis because they come from the same coaching tree but lets not forget theta Charlie Weis really never coached in college he had a short stint on South Carolina staff then went back to a high school head coach before jumping to the nfl as a special teams coach.

I hope O'Brien has the same pull with QB's the Weis had I also hope he realizes he has to play defense. lol

  • Bob Stoops was the DC at FSU before going to Oklahoma, Tressel was just the HC at Youngstown State, Mark Richter was the OC at FSU, Butch Davis was the DC with Cowboys before going to Miami and the list goes on.
