Good to hear. I thought I read this can now happen prior to the end of the 5th year. All he needed to do was get his medical redshirt from 2010 accepted I believe and then the 6th year would be granted. 2011 was guaranteed as he missed all season

Awesome. Hopefully he learns the position really well and can become a solid starter for a year or two and then the beast Nelson can take over in 2 years.

I wonder if he has an chance to make an impact, or even start. I don't know, because I've seen so little of him so far. I do know he has good athletic ability, and must have decent feet to be a D1 tight end.

As o-line is the hardest position to predict in college football, I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to how his skills will transition to offense tackle.

He is a strong blocking TE so the run game shouldn't be a huge issue given his experience, size and strength. Pass pro will be a challenge though but I would think he should adjust pretty quickly given his time playing at a high level. Generally working as a reciever should have helped develop footwork and shows his athletic ability for a big guy. It is different obviously that what a tackle does but should be transferable. There will be a learning curve IMO but Mac is a great guy to teach him and he won't be the first TE switched OT. Coaches love an athlete that can match up with some of the speed guys off the edge. Another factor would be if he was left in at TE to help with pass pro in max pro sets. I honestly don't know if PSU has done that with him but if it is something he has practiced then it just speeds up the learning process.

Agreed! If this works out, it could be a really significant move...for the team and Garry, himself.
