  • Hello everyone! For about a month or two, I have been "lurking in the shadows" as another first timer recently put it, devouring any tidbit of free information I could lay my hands on. I am currently a freshman at University Park, so my status of a poor college kid has kept me from going VIP. Ever since splashing onto the scene this past Thursday when I posted a drunken rambling about my favorite current and all-time PSU players (I still don't know how I managed to spell everything right), I figured I should step out of the shadows and introduce myself to everyone.

I look forward to sharing insights and recruiting info on all things Penn State with everyone- maybe share some info only a student could provide... For example: A good friend of mine is on the football team and always works out with Bolden. He says that in practice Bolden is a thousand times better than McGloin, but he gets really nervous for the games and just chokes. Bolden is also getting glasses this off season, so it's good to know at times last season we were playing with a practically blind QB.

I have been a Penn State fan ever since I was 9 nine years old when I went to the PSU v. Michigan game in 2001. Michigan absolutely dominated us but the entire atmosphere of the game just blew me away. I still remember a chipmunk got on the field during a TV timeout & the Nittany Lion pretended to stalk it & chased it around... The thing was running all over the field & when it finally ran into one of the end zones the entire stadium erupted into a cheering frenzy. Ever since then I wanted to be a part of the madness.

Anyways almost every college student has something they do to kill time when they should be doing their homework or writing papers. For some kids, it's Facebook. For me, it's Lions 24/7 & Penn State recruiting. I hope no one will write off my insights because I am just a student, as I played football for a third of my life and know my X's & O's pretty well. This is just the first year since midget football I am on the outside looking in, so that is why I joined a forum (I kinda experimented with them all- ESPN, rivals, scout... and I've found 24/7 to be the best).

I can't wait to discuss anything & everything PSU with everyone! Everyone look for me in the student section next year, I'll be the one wearing white! Oh... and Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

    For the Glory,
    Dan K

Welcome. If you're a freshman, that must mean you're not 21 years old yet and shouldn't be drinking. Shame on you. j/k.

Does your friend play on offense or defense? Does he start? You're probably going to get blasted by McGloin backers who will say that's just one kid's opinion, he's got a beef with McGloin, etc. I, personally find it interesting and not unbelievable. Share what you can. Thanks.

Haha, well you caught me I guess... My friend is a freshman linebacker, he didn't start. I don't think he has any particular beef with McGloin, as it was pretty well understood that under Joe that freshman that don't start should be seen and not heard, which is why I think it's just his honest opinion from watching the two in practice. McGloin certainly had his moments (NW & Mich games last year & Illinois this year... even made a valiant effort against Nebraska). Either way, I'm hoping Paul Jones turns out to be the starter or maybe if the football gods smile on us Danny O'Brien. There's also Steven Bench... in all honesty with a new coach & a new system and all the players vying for the spot the QB position is totally up in the air right now as far as I know.

  • Welcome Kinnetaw! Refreshing post. Brings me back to my college days; what a great time that was. I studied Economics as an undergrad and graduate teaching assistant. What a deal...I got free tuition and paid for teaching something that was easy as pie to me. God bless America.

What I missed the most, believe it or not, was community. We were all part of a common endeavor, learning and having a blast in the process. Once you graduate everything changes...

  • Welcome aboard. One piece of advice. Take time to really appreciate every moment of your college experience. It truly will be among the best 4-5 years of your life. Enjoy the fun times, the friends, and most important all the free time. I laugh when I think about how busy I was in college going to class for 15 hours a week. Flash forward 15 years and 60 hour work weeks are often the norm. These boards are a great distraction, but don't forget to get a real education while you're there.

welcome fellow student, i think like at penn state, we are outnumbered by alumni on this site. which is cool because it gives different perceptions then you'll get from the casual or clueless student that just reads onward state and doesn't realize the piss poor quality allowed to be in an article.
