Finally jumped aboard the 247 Train

  • I have been a BWI member for almost 7 years now and have been checking out the free stuff on 24-7 for the last few months. With the season approaching, I just merged my BWI account through the end of the year. The offer was too good to pass up. Anyone else keeping both 247 and BWI? I think i may because I still enjoy the BWI info esp Phil Grosz updates. Thoughts?

  • In terms of inside info and contacts Phil Grosz is far behind Fitz and Brennan/Harrington. FARRRR behind.

  • You may be right. I have read Fitz stuff when he was on BWI. I just enjoy Phil's analysis and respect his longstanding relationship with the program. I have been a long time reader and just feel some loyalty there but am always looking for new sources so 247 seems great.

    Anyone else plan on keeping both?

    I have never used scout really...haven't heard good things about it.

  • Hey I am a huge Bills fan too! Looking forward to the season. I do sense the team is finally headed in the right direction. Hoping for a 500 record or so if i am being realistic. Very upset with the Poz loss but Nick Barnett is a great addition in terms of talent and leadership and winning.

    What do you expect for the Bills season?

    I haven't used Scout either. But from what I hear, the biggest issue with them is the national analysts. I mean, you have a Pitt fanboy as the main NE guy...

    I know i'm bias, but I don't think there's a better person than Sean in this market in terms of both recruiting and team news. There are others who have been around a lot longer and covering the program for many more years, but Sean is the total package.

    Another Bills fan? Sweet, not many of those around outside of Bills message boards.

    I agree, I think this rebuilding project is going a little slower than I had hoped, but they're going about it the right way. In terms of wins, I expect a 6-10 season or so, with 1-2 wins over teams we wouldn't normally expect to beat (you know, like the almost wins we had last year against Baltimore and Pittsburgh). To me, that's one of the signs of an improving team.

    I also expect the run defense to improve, and overall defense to rank in the average range, maybe 15th-20th. Offense is hard to read. If Parrish/Easley/rest of our WR's can stay healthy, I think they could improve too, but I'm not expecting anything much since they haven't upgraded the OT's. I do like that they have tried to upgrade the OT's, just haven't gotten the right guys yet. I expect them to spend at least one high pick on an OT in the next draft.

    Yeah, I don't know what on earth is up with that kid. Disappointing to say the least and a huge amount of ammunition for the people who despise PSU players (seem to be a number of those on the Bills boards...).

  • Yea def annoying to read some of the anti psu stuff just because of Maybin. I always thought it was a bad pick. He was a one year starter and just used his speed in college. Didnt like the pick back then.

    What bills boards and sites do you use? I go to buffalorumblings and the bills website message board mostly.

    Dareus is gonna be a beast in the middle..along with Kyle Williams...great combo

    Agreed, I didn't like the pick either. To be honest, I was hesitant about Orakpo too, but obviously was wrong about that one. Oh well.

    I used to go to the main Bills board (have around 8000 posts, IIRC), but it got too annoying wading through the crap there. I tend to visit billszone.com much more often now. Still has some crap, but posters are generally much better there. I also look at the buffalorumblings postings, but I'm not signed up, so rarely comment there.

    I'd like to see Dareus play only LDE this first year. Then later if they want to move him around, that would be great. Don't want to make him learn too many positions early - could stunt his development. I agree, though, I'm liking a lot where our DL is headed.

    BTW, if you visit billszone (or buffalobills.com), I'm psubills62 on both of those sites as well. When I do visit bb.com, I tend to stay in the NCAA football forum.

    Thanks for setting the record straight, and thanks for joining us here at 247. Fitz is doing a great job, as evidenced by all the new users and reputable posters (like yourself) joining the network.

  • I did that same thing. I have been with BWi for many years. I have the print magazine for 20 years. I am a big fan of Phil, but really like Sean's stuff as well. So, I am going to check 247 out.

    The real question I have is should I renew my magazine subscription to BWI. I have read less than less each year due to everything online.

  • I have been on BWI for 7 years and the first 2 3 years got the print magazine as well but as you said everything is online. I dropped the print in like 2006 2007...no need really. Nice to get it in the mail but most of it is posted before i get the issue.

    Def enjoy phils work. Wonder if the guys here could ever recruit him over ;)

  • I recently jumped aboard 247 myself. So far it appears to be a very well-run board. I'm also a member of Scout. Really like that service as well (great chats, friendly staff, etc.). Only real beef with Scout is that too many threads devolve into pissing matches between two posters (too much testesterone floating around that board). In my one month here, that does not seem to be an issue yet. Hope it doesn't become part of this board's growing pains.
