I know or will assume that we are all Penn State fans here: But what other teams professionally do you root for, and why? Hockey playoffs brought this up.
NFL: Steelers- bc I'm a western PA boy. I liked the Dolphins with Marino and the 49ers bc of Montana, but just the Steelers now. NHL: Penguins- turned onto hockey when they won their first Stanley in '91 and have loved it since. I like watching the sport regardless of who is playing. Like Boston, Chicago, and Detroit prior to 2009. MLB: Phillies- Mike Schmidt fan growing up, Pirates which is mainly why I never watch any baseball, Indians since my Grandpa was a fan. Soccer: Bayern Munich, Premier League some bc of the skill, Columbus Crew since I live here and have a friend whose son played for them. NBA: Sixers. Charles Barkley was the man. Do not watch much anymore.
Just a topic, talk amongst yourselves.

NFL: Patriots - my favorite player ever was Steve Grogan. He was a gamer and played with a broken collarbone once. Made one heck of an impression.
NHL - Penguins - grew up north of Pittsburgh. Saw my first game right after the 1980 Olympics - Mark Johnson v. Ken Morrow. I was hooked and have been since even in the bad years.
MLB - Pirates - very frustrating two decades for a franchise that has tremendous history ... passionate fan base that craves a winner sometime in the next decade.
NBA - Phoenix Suns - Phoenix is like a second home to me. Grew up rooting for Alvin Adams, Paul Westphal, the Van Arsdale's, Larry Nance and Kevin Johnson. Don't watch much NBA anymore. The game bores me.

Never was a big O's and Yankees fan until my cuz (Mike Mussina) pitched for them and atually got to go to games both places. Great cities for baseball.
You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino
