Fans of what pro teams

  • I know or will assume that we are all Penn State fans here: But what other teams professionally do you root for, and why? Hockey playoffs brought this up.

NFL: Steelers- bc I'm a western PA boy. I liked the Dolphins with Marino and the 49ers bc of Montana, but just the Steelers now.
NHL: Penguins- turned onto hockey when they won their first Stanley in '91 and have loved it since. I like watching the sport regardless of who is playing. Like Boston, Chicago, and Detroit prior to 2009.
MLB: Phillies- Mike Schmidt fan growing up, Pirates which is mainly why I never watch any baseball, Indians since my Grandpa was a fan.
Soccer: Bayern Munich, Premier League some bc of the skill, Columbus Crew since I live here and have a friend whose son played for them.
NBA: Sixers. Charles Barkley was the man. Do not watch much anymore.

Just a topic, talk amongst yourselves.

NFL: Patriots - my favorite player ever was Steve Grogan. He was a gamer and played with a broken collarbone once. Made one heck of an impression.

NHL - Penguins - grew up north of Pittsburgh. Saw my first game right after the 1980 Olympics - Mark Johnson v. Ken Morrow. I was hooked and have been since even in the bad years.

MLB - Pirates - very frustrating two decades for a franchise that has tremendous history ... passionate fan base that craves a winner sometime in the next decade.

NBA - Phoenix Suns - Phoenix is like a second home to me. Grew up rooting for Alvin Adams, Paul Westphal, the Van Arsdale's, Larry Nance and Kevin Johnson. Don't watch much NBA anymore. The game bores me.

  • NFL: Should be obvious. I grew up in Western NY.

I don't really follow other sports very closely, but if I had to associate myself with teams in these leagues, this is who I'd associate myself with:

MLB: TB Rays. Had a hat of theirs when they were an expansion team and I like underdogs.
    NBA: Maybe the Bulls.
NHL: Sabres. Gotta stick with loyalty to Buffalo here.

  • MLB: New York Yankees

    NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins

    NFL: Seattle Seahawks

    NBA: Don't know, don't care.

  • Not a big fan of the NFL anymore as college football trumps it IMO (not the talent, but overall games), but Steelers. Then Pens, Pirates, and dont watch NBA.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

  • NFL: Denver Broncos - I got attached to their old uniforms that were pale orange and blue. Plus I like the big D on their helmets with the Bronco jumping out of it. Also, I was a big fan of John Elway and Terrell Davis. Been a fan ever since.

NHL: Philadelphia Flyers - born and raised in south central PA, I'm a Philly fan for all sports teams EXCEPT the Iggles.

    MLB: Philadelphia Phillies

    NBA: Philadelphia 76ers

  • All Philly pro teams.
    UNC and Temple college hoops.
    Chelsea FC.

As far as 2nd teams, I have a lot of friends in Baltimore, so I tend to root for the Ravens and Os. Red Wings in hockey...grew up a huge Fedorov fan.

You'll find several Bayern allies on the board, which is cool. I've really enjoyed watching Juventus and Dortmund play the past two yrs. Getting into Juve a little bit.

  • CFB: PSU, with OU second.

    MLB: Texas Rangers.

NFL: Cowboys, but try not to watch much because we suck and I'm not fond of Jerry Jones.

NHL: Dallas Stars, but can't watch any games up here without streaming so I've had to follow on NHL.com.

NBA: HATE the NBA, but if I root for a team its the Mavs. I appreciate Kobe though.

‏@Cordale10 Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS

  • From south central PA about 25 minutes from the Mason-Dixon Line so love the Caps and O's. Sixers and Iggles round out the 4 major here. Love Chelsea FC and follow Juventas for Serie A. Terps college bball for a long time (would love Chambers to change that)

Penn State 7x National Champs, home of the winningest college football coach to ever grace a sideline.

  • I like Chelsea. I can usually catch Premier League replay games on early Sunday mornings when it is my turn for the kids[waking up at 6 so my wife can sleep in]. My 2 year old will watch soccer with me. It sure beats Dora.
I missed seeing Bayern when in Munich because I didn't plan ahead. Mia San Mia. I can only say that I am a casual fan because other than the game last Tuesday I rarely catch them on TV. The only team that is must see TV for me is Penn State Football and schedules will revolve around their game time. I don't watch NBA. World Cup soccer is fun too even if you're not into the sport. The Steelers are also a must see for me but central Ohio sticks me with the Browns or Bengals so I do yard work and listen on the radio.
I used to watch college hoops but just in March now.

  • Redskins - I'm a writer for HogsHaven, and have been a fan since I was 5.

Yankees - I'm not diehard baseball, like I am football, but the Yanks are the team I follow.

U.N.C. Basketball - Used to love UNC, but my love in general of basketball(both college and pro)has dwindled.

  • I see a common themse here (yes I catch on fast), nobody cares about the NBA. Back when Bird, Magic, Dominique, Barkley, Jordan etc were playing it was a fun leauge. It has since taken a turn for the worst.....or maybe I've just always hated it.

NFL: Steelers (as TMal noted though, I can almost care less about NFL.....any college game is much more fun to me)
    NHL: Pens
    NCAAB: PSU & Georgetown
MLB: Pirates (hahaha.....go ahead and send me your sympathies) and Yankees/O's. Never was a big O's and Yankees fan until my cuz (Mike Mussina) pitched for them and atually got to go to games both places. Great cities for baseball.

  • Born and raised part of my life in Chicago (half of my family there)= Bears

Dad is from Pittsburgh, and spent the rest of my life there (other half of my family there)= Stillers...

I catch flack all the time for rooting for both, but I don't really care. Both have historic defense and killer fans, including me...

    NBA= Bulls
    MLB= White Sox and Pirates

Hockey, dont really watch, but root for the Pens and Blackhawks when I see that they are playing...

Just gotta rep where you're from same reason I am partial to the FL teams when I see em on.

  • MLB: Yankees-grew up on Long Island in the 70's watch Reggie, Munson, Guidry Goose, etc.

NFL: Broncos-my father didn't watch football and the Jets and Giants sucked. I picked the Broncos b/c of their orange jersey's and I liked the big D on their helmets (my last name starts with a D).

NBA: Knicks-my brother had season tickets during the Ewing years. Was in the Garden for his missed finger roll that would have beaten Jordan and the Bulls in the conference finals.

NHL: don't follow but will root for Islanders or Rangers
