Family helps push Golden to success

Incoming wide receiver Malik Golden had plenty of motivation as he developed into one of the top prospects in the Northeast.

  • think we will need him at corner, hope he starts off there

  • "I think (playing) wide receiver came more naturally," he said. "But in high school, I liked shutting down another receiver. I think I could be a great corner."

  • When I talked to Malik last week he certainly was aware of the situation in the defensive backfield and said he wasn't opposed to moving over if that's what the team needed.

Definitely good to hear. It had seemed from his comments during his recruitment that he wasn't keen on playing in the defensive backfield.

sounds like he rather play corner than safety which is what we need more

We could use both. Personally, I don't think DaQuan Davis is big enough to make an impact in year 1. Can still use Lucas, Kiley, and maybe Trevor Williams at safety.

  • I think Golden probably projects a little better as a safety, but we certainly need help at corner too.

Would you rather have Golden go to S and Amos stay at corner, or vice versa?

Not sure how to answer. I like both better at safety (but with Golden that's far less certain since we haven't seen play at this level yet. I think he better projects at safety because he's a bigger kid, good frame, not sure he has the hips to play corner at a top level, think he would be better as a center fielder with his longer strides and bigger frame).

Amos, to me, is an extremely intriguing player. He was signed as a DB but looked like he had the heart of a LB in his high school film. He simply does not tackle like a typical DB. My dream for him was for him to get up to Bowman size and develop into a great OLB. But he's faster than I thought he was (and I thought he was pretty fast). I'm not sure anyone knew he was this fast. I don't know his 40 time, but he's fast on the field. So you have a kid sitting at 210, who can flat out run, loves to hit and is a very good tackler in general, and he has a good feel for the game. I'd like to see him at safety, roaming everywhere, making plays. I mean he's 210, not many corners are 6'/210.

But if you're telling me both are on the field in 2012 (far from a certainty for Golden), then I'd prefer Amos at corner and Golden at safety. But really we don't have enough information to make that call right now.

I want Golden just to provide depth at corner along with Davis and have Thomas and Morris as corners and Willis and Amos as safeties....that would be our best starting line up.

Lucas could maybe help out at corner or safety too
