The fact that LJ is staying...I like the chances of Vandy staying. I thought LJ would be harder to keep.
Keep those two guys and I'm on board with whatever else he brings in. That keeps our 2 strengths on D as strengths. Bring in a good secondary coach and this D can get even better.

I'd be interested to know what coaches BOB has contact with in the defensive backfield. Wouldn't take much to trump Buggs' resume.

Whats wrong with Buggs?
Recruits well despite not having a "specific" territory to focus on. New guy on the roster got the leftover areas and areas without previously established relationships with schools/coaches.
Personable enough, straight shooter and works hard.
Give him more stability of location with recruiting, and more resources as he was often outside or "norm" range to target. Changes in scheme and style, at least partially, may actually allow for more focus on our DB development rather than read and react a specific zone all the time and being extremely reliant on a 4 man rush getting it done.
Can we do better? sure
Can we do worse? Also possible

I can see Vandy being the DC... I love LJ but Vandy has had great success being a DC in the past and I think if he runs what he wants he can be successful again. Vandy has the skills and experience to be a DC and he should be one somewhere.

Defensively, we need a DBs coach - and I think Coach Buggs might be a little inexperienced. The DBs were coached by Scrap & Buggs, and if you asses PSU it's the secondary that needs the most improvement. I think Coach O'Brien will want to bring in an outsider. I'm guessing this is going to be the make/up of the staff by title, given that Coach O'Brien will be calling the offense (I think we're only allowed 9 coaches, 6 of whom can hit the road to recruit):
HC - O'Brien
OC/QB Coach
WR Coach
OL Coach
RB Coach
DC
DL Coach - Larry Johnson, JR
LB Coach - Vandy
DB Coach
