Because he got an invite to The Opening? Or am I missing some info from it?

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

Eddie Vanderdoes is a mean man... He made some very good prospects look very bad today. Best DL performance I have ever seen at a camp

  • Strange that Issah was going out at WR... I would be interested to see him work at LB, covering and flipping his hips. We all know hes good at going forward... I wonder how his basketball background translates into coverage.

  • For anyone who is interested, here's Justin Hopkins' (national analyst for 247) thoughts on Issah (this was in response to my musings that many PSU fans had decided that Issah was athletic but too stiff in the hips to play LB):

"Personally I thought Issah was athletic, but not big enough(shoulders/upper body) to play LB. So based on what I saw I'm thinking he would be best served at S or WR.

Obviously everything changes once the pads are strapped on."

EUGENE, Ore.- Defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes lead a group of talented prospects at the Eugene Nike Football Training Camp on Sunday, the final NFTC of the year.

You dont think Fitz could do work there? Safety is an interesting concept... Has he ever camped working out there?

I think its about his frame. Hard to make those bigger. Outside of his hips it would be my second biggest fear with Issah. He's built like a WR.

  • Didn't get a height/weight from Nike but JC estimated 6-1, 190 on Issah. I've never met the kid so I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Just from looking at his film, that seems an underestimation on both counts. I was thinking 6-2, maybe 205.

I thought taller but not as heavy. Kid's pretty darn thin.

WR intrigues me at some level with him. Very good player going forward.

I think his (very) long and fairly thin legs make him look thinner than he is. I think 200+ is fair. Plenty of room to fill out.

And I think the stuff about his hips needs to be let go. He was out there playing wide receiver yesterday and the lone description of him was "fluid". The film backs that up, too. I think he appears awkward at times as a LB because of how long his legs are, and how those long legs force his footwork to be a little awkward. This is a feeling I know well as a former soccer player, where long legs are a curse and have to be accommodated through training. Some good coaching will help him tighten up his drops and help him to work in tight spaces.

  • Issah just wrapped up track season in which he was a sprinter, so it wouldn't be a shock if he were down a few pounds.

  • 6'1-6'3 seems to be the idea of his height. My guess is a little closer to 6'1 though. I do agree on the 205.

As for safety...meh. I really like him at LB. I think he'll end up being too big for safety, plus those hips will really hurt him out there.
