  • I don't want to be "That guy" but when does somebody step up and remind Cael he's a coach first and a comeback artist second?

He's a coach, not a baby sitter. I would imagine there will be hell to pay for this.

  • Dude, it's 4AM. Go home.

Hard to babysit these guys 24/7.

Then why is it Urban Meyer's fault when people beat eachother up in the middle of the night. We don't babysit at Penn State, but clearly at Florida the coaches have no control

Unless Urban was hosting an impromptu fight night I don't see why people beating each other up would be his fault either. Did I miss something?

Ben is just talking about a certain "high and mighty" portion of our fanbase that views other schools out of control at the slightest off field problems, while basically making any excuses they can think of for our own issues.

People can think what they want, but they should at least be consistent.

Exactly. I'll admit my words may have been harsh. I know these guys can't stop it all, but it doesn't hurt to be around.

  • Riding high after great accomplishments can be expected. Feeling invincible is an unfortunate added ingredient that comes with youth. However, there is no excuse. This is disgraceful.

    Wonka

  • Cael needs to start to get a wrap on his guys. Things like this that add up aren't looking to good, no matter if you win a National Championship or not.

  • Why is it people think a coach can keep kids between 18-22 out of trouble or not doing dumb things at that age? My friends and myself really must have been in in the minority at that age as we did some stupid crap and guess whos fault it was....our own. It's not society's fault, or a coaches, or anyone elses. At that point you have a basis understanding of right from wrong, but you also don't have the off switch the comes 7-8 years down the road for most. Call it unacceptable all you want, but my glass house wouldn't have a roof...some apparently don't even have a chip. This was in DC, should the coach have been there to ensure he as at home reading or working out? You can't excuse it, but stop acting as it impacts you. It's the young mans fault and the coach should deal with it...when the kid gets back on campus if he is allowed to.

  • As I see it...with wrestling, as with football, there's a fundamental incongruency at work. The qualities that make a recruit very desirable for an upper tier college wrestling or football team (strength, aggressiveness, confidence, ability to dominate, etc.) are the same qualities that often get those players in trouble with the law.

In my experience, wrestlers have typically had a higher 'moral' code than football players in general. The level of daily discipline required by top flight wrestlers helps hone that ethic. There are exceptions to every rule, and testosterone infused incidents are always bound to happen within any group of 20 or 85 young men. It happens, but like Lajolla said, it's out of Cael's control while the kids are off campus. You can do as much homework as you can on a kid's character while recruiting him, but is there any way to forecast a kid's dumb decision while likely intoxicated in the middle of the night?
