ESPN - stop it

  • Is anyone else getting the impression that ESPN is rooting for players to transfer and defect? Poll questions, mis-leading headlines, interviews...Sure seems like they are actively trying to undermine the recruiting process and get current players to consider transferring. Maybe it is sour grapes, but enough is enough. Report it when it happens if it happens!

  • ESPN has been the leading voice for the destruction of PSU since the beginning. No reason to expect them to change now. I wonder how much advertising revenue from PSU games they'll be donating to RAINN this fall.

  • I actually think ESPN has been pretty fair since the Freeh Report was released. Lots of top voices at ESPN have gone to bat for our players and team. Its not only sports nuts who are paying attention its lots of people who wouldnt normally follow a sports story.

  • Jay bilas yesterday during sports center had a nice segment blasting the NCAA about inconsistencies and lack of due process

  • Yeah, I heard him and Bobby Knight's statements. I also liked what Brent Mussberger said. But I am tired of seeing the other side of it so frequently about the defections and transfers (that haven't happened) It just seems like the headlines say it has already occurred.

  • ESPN is absolutely routing for our players to leave. It gives them something to talk about. I was sick watching how ESPN was doing other teams recruiting for them when they showed Redd highlights tonight. It's almost like they became a recruiting service, and are parading our players around the country to other teams.

    It's freakin sick.

This is the most basic of all story lines... It is not just relegated to ESPN. Everybody turns to look at the train wreck. That's what makes the money. The feel good stories are the ones that are played when no ones watching on Gameday or when everyone's gone to get beer during halftime.

If you don't think that almost every sports columnist and sportsmedia journalist isn't secretly hoping for chaos and tragedy then you haven't paid attention to the news ever. The girl from the Patriot News is a household name and won the Pulitzer (and for the record I think she deserves it). Reporters don't go to the warzone and dangerous areas because they enjoy it... they go for the story that is going to get them the most publicity... the story of child rape at a proud Institution provides lots of opportunities for these people to build a reputation or feed their already bloated egos.

The best thing that can happen for our team is to get through the other trials while keeping the majority of this team in tact, win a ton of games this year and keep Breneman and Hack... and these vultures picking at our carcass right now will fly off to find some newer sexier calamity to write about.

  • ESPN has been the most pathetic of the overall pathetic media ... they create the stories, push for mob mentality. They pushed to crucify .. now they feel so bad that NCAA overstepped their bounds. They are a big part of the problem ... just like the media in politics. The 4th leg of democracy has failed .. and that is why this county is failing.

Keep this in mind all you journalism majors .. you going to be Howard Stern or a real journalist?

  • That's right the EVIL mickey mouse club is out to get PSU

    FireJayPa

  • OSU went through it with ESPN last year. I think even people that wanted to see OSU get hammered got sick of the coverage. You just have to turn them off. It's a 24 hour news cycle and PSU is their big story.

  • I am starting to see them turn in our favor a bit. I wonder if our emails and non-stop cries for looking into the whole story is beginning to work a bit. I sent copies of the errors in the Freeh report 11 times today to try to get them to report about it.

Howard Stern doesn't pretend to be anything more than he is. Like him or not he's a huge name and an entertainer. In fact he thrives on people not liking him.

It's the Sensationalists that pretend to have integrity and pass off opinions as facts, yell really loud & then berate anyone that disagrees with them that are the real problem. People look to these blowhards for information and are lead astray. They are treated like diety's and they are nothing but false prophets preaching whatever will make them the most money.
