You realize the Nebraska game was one of the highest rated games for that time slot on ESPN ever right? They know exactly what they're doing to get ratings.

I guess my sarcasm wasn't detected...I was poking fun at the loons that think ESPN is somehow intentionally trying to hurt PSU instead of doing what's good for their business.

  • Only thing this country likes better than seein a person or group fall is the redemption story. It's going to take some time but we are slowly seeing it

So you're defending them intentionally hurting Penn state because it's good for their business?

Penn State football, alumni, students, and faculty have done nothing for them to require redemption. Do NOT fall into the trap where we have to "come back" from something. Anything done to our program, was done by outside forces such as Jerry Sandusky, ESPN, SI, the Big 10, the NCAA and the rest of the mass media that refused to wait for facts, and instead hung us out to dry because that's what the mob wanted - after they themselves put that mob into a frenzy, helped along by our incompetent Board of Trustees,

    This is no redemption story.

Nope. Penn State hurt itself, ESPN didn't intentionally hurt them for ratings.

ESPN absolutely made things worse for us for ratings. There's zero denying that.

Supply and demand. Its a big story, they reported it. Its called their job. PSU takes care of business there is little to no story.

And Penn State Administration/BOT hurt Penn State University and community. Two separate entities.

You are going too far to be "real". They, SI, and others exacerbated the situation, and enraged the masses just to make a buck. Just look at the cover of their special edition, along with SI's special edition.

Last I saw they were paid/elected to run/govern the University. Yep not representatives at all. Sorry, the ESPN sob story doesn't play here.

They did their job. What do you expect? Its a big story, that PSU helped create by not dealing with it early on.

Jesus I sound like sneaky, and I supported Joe through all this.

No I got it loud and clear - I was saying that all that negative pub ESPN gave us (ie hurting PSU) made them a ton of dough on that game and is good for their business.

Honest question - you don't wonder the voracity of their coverage of PSU/Sandusky and OSU/Tatgate compared with Auburn/180k and Syracuse/Fine?

Their job is to report, not rabble rouse and tear down a legend for the sake of ratings.

That's fine, why intentionally try to destroy the football program?

I have said before they are obviously slanted slightly away from teh B1G, thats a smart business decision. I don't think the OS versus AU coverage was that different, especially after the NCAA ruled Cam eligible it pretty much ended. Unlike the whole thing at OSU where Tressel hung himself.

The Cuse thing bugged me. That was self preservation as they covered themselves on that one. But none of the PSU stuff bugged me. Its a scandal of epic proportions. Thats children, that our admins possibly covered up. Now I defended Joe for following the law, and that is why he was never indicted, but its a BFD people. Some here are just looking to pass the blame and need a boogeyman, that's ESPN for them. ESPN has, especially their writers, some great things to say about PSU recruiting and BOB since then. But people need their boogeyman.

Fine is turning out to be completely innocent. The dude accusing him just went to jail.

Yea, it's not me that's refusing to see reality. ESPN saw $$$ in smearing Penn State football and Joe Paterno and went after it. You sound like sneaky because you go so far to present yourself as a realist, that you fail to see reality. Or did you miss the editorials in major papers that demanded we shut down the football program?

Why would ESPN try to kill PSU when its a huge cashcow every time they are on the air? I have said I defended Paterno, but killing the program? Come on. They have recruiting updates on how good we are doing. They have their NFL guys talking about how good of a coach we got. They did their job, if Penn State did theirs it wouldn't be a problem.

And for the record, sneaky is perpetually pissed off because I defend Joe on this. Of course you lump us together because you think in your own little world that we must agree on everything.

For the papers: Of course there will be people saying that. Its an emotional issue, that happens. Some people thought OSU should get the death penalty. People over react all the time with it. ESPN wasn't leading the charge to shut down the program. Fire Joe Paterno? That you can argue. But it can be easily argued that it was earned, not that I agree with it.
