Cough...Freeh group...cough. we already hired someone once to give a predetermined outcome is my belief.
Or thy hired Marsh to make it look like there was no way to fight.
Certain groups don't seem to want probed at all is another possible take.
If you havent signed up for premium 247 yet..take my word for it...its worth it!

No one even knows nor cares who Marsh is (outside of the 1% minority who actually follows this stuff).

Have you ever hired a lawyer? They are there to give you your options and act on your decisions; they are not there to tell you what to do. If PSU hired him with the goal of having him negotiate a settlement that excluded the DP or some maximum set of sanctions they would accept to move forward, then YES they were telling him how far he was allowed to take the fight. If they were hiring him to fight sanctions they wouldn't have signed off on the sanctions!

They hired him to determine the best compromise for the University. Just because you think that PSU could have done better, doesn't make it so.

Of course, but what were the risks? If I dump $1,000.00 in the mega millions lottery, chances are I won't see a return. I COULD do well, but it is likely that I would not. Marsh knows how these things work. If he thought the rewards outweighed the risks, they wouldn't have accepted those sanctions. But just know that a 4 year death penalty kills all athletics, gets us kicked out of the Big Ten, and hurts the local economy. That was a real possibilty here and Marsh and Erickson prevented that from happening.
