Its really just a more fleshed out version of what we already knew but I found the passages about how the BOT never really had a chance to review the report before 'accepting' it formally to be the real dagger. The BOT needs to overhauled and there needs to be some accountability to do things right...even if it takes longer. Rushing to conclusions and decisions by everyone involved here can be blamed for a lot of the fallout.

  • Every single one of them can all go f*ck themselves. They did not give a sh!t about the victims. They did not care about facts. The ONLY thing they cared about was setting themselves up as the worst kind of tyrant and dictatorship. Go f*ck yourself to hell, Emmert. You're a lying bastard who who should be held accountable for the MILLIONS of dollars your desperate quest r relevancy is going to cause central Pennsylvania.

This is what jumped out to me as well, you didn't read the f-ing report, but issued a statement anyway? That's absurd. It's their duty to read the report, its unbelievable.

  • Erickson actually says with a straight face that Emmert was our friend in this? With friends like him, who needs enemies? Then again, it's not like Neville Erickson is a friend to Penn State himself.

Well, I mean, we skimmed it. We read parts of the conclusion. That's the same as reading and understanding the facts, right?

  • 60 million dollars, untold how many dollars effecting the University and greater state college with the football penalties and they couldn't even get it into the conversation over 2 days of meetings. WHAT?????? I have posted my low regard for the board but unbelievably they have sunk even lower.

  • That turns my stomach. Strong armed into accepting the sanctions. And because we are public enemy number 1, nobody cares how we were not given due process or a far chance. New americanto way? Allow press to dictate the outcome.

  • Thank you Rod "The Douche" Erickson, you POS.

  • Presidents of companies, CEO'S of companies and on the BOT's of PSU, the most important report ever issued on PSU and you just breezed threw it. Didn't have enough time to read, more important things, like a budget meeting to go over. After this is done you'll be lucky to be able to have a budget. After reading this everyone of the present BOT's should resign for not doing their duties. The more I think about this the more pissed of I get. "UNFUCKIN BELIEVEABLE"
these are the leaders of PSU.

"majority of the NCAA's Division I board of directors -- 18 university presidents -- had coalesced around a decision: Shut down Penn State's football program for four years."

Emmert could have sucked up to those presidents and went along with a 4 year death penalty. Maybe Emmert actually WAS your friend on this by bargaining with you.

I think he may have been, but he still had a little too much fun with the whole process. That little toad will cross the boundary one time too far and he will pay.

Actually I believe giving PSU the death penalty might have been the final straw to move the spineless Bot and Rod "the douche" Erickson to say you've gone to far we need to fight this. They would have no other option. The NCAA played RTDE like a fiddle.

Where was Penn States leverage in this negotiation? The fact is, the University didn't have a leg to stand on. If the University had fought this, it would have been worse. When not one of the 18 other shools vote in your favor, it's a done deal. OB's right, let's just move on. It sucks, but IMO, the medicine is going to be worth it in the long run. The perception of PSU is in the toilet. By serving our sentence, we can at least start to change that perception. We still have our University. We still have football. We all know what PSU is about. Eventually the rest of the country will realize it too.

The world is pissed off at what happened a PSU. 1 coach and 3 administrators but 100% of the punishment is levied on a football program that wasn't guilty. The NCAA is about sports not University governance. PSU administration screwed up, punish it, not innocent players. The NCAA did a grand stand to feed a blood thirsty mob. The BOT and Rod "the douche" Erickson were happy to serve up football to take the attention away from their long list of shortcomings.

I would love to move on but a serious miscarriage of justice has occurred here and many seem content to turn their heads. The precedence set here is mind boggling for every university but few seem to realize or care. Try to look just a little past tomorrow and see where this is heading. You may want to reconsider your position as opposed to wait until the NCAA decides to exercise their new usurped power on another university.

  • Like it or not, Erickson saved our ass. The anger directed at him is not substantiated in regards to the NCAA sanctions. Be pissed at the 4 idiots. Be pissed at the BOT. Be pissed at the NCAA. But Erickson should not be one of the guys to be mad at.

I agree that the punishment doesn't fit the crime, they rarely do when it comes to the NCAA, but it doesn't change the fact that the University signed a binding agreement that waives the right of appeal. It's done. We're all mad as hell, but that won't get us anywhere. Nobody outside of PSU is going to care until the NCAA penalizes their team. I agree that several bad precedence have been set here, but the worst one of all is that plain and open public transparency will only get you so far with the NCAA. I expect each team under threat in the future will use our experience as what not to do, and lawyer up from day one.

May be too early to say 100% of punishment is levied on football program. It has been pushed aside, but aren't the state and feds still getting involved?

The 1998 incident was fully investigated by the state & charges were dropped.

Attorney Generals (Current Gov. Corbett and Mike Fisher) did not pursue, as they were accepting campaign contributions from Sandusky's Second Mile and some very powerful corporate campaign donors who have no interest in pursuing. Potentially ties to Merck and Merrill Lynch senior people.

In fact, the investigation of The Second Mile is likely being discontinued.

The Second Mile was a de-facto Public/Private/Philanthropic partnership with state Dept. of Child Welfare to run foster homes. So the problem is that the State Gov't is probably more guilty than anyone at PennState. They are not going to investigate themselves.

AND, The Second Mile, with ties to powerful corporate lobbyists, is unlikely to feel pressure from the Feds.

Fun Fact - The Second Mile was one of Bush I's 'Thousand Points of Light'

Clearly, the 2001 incident may be a violation of the Cleary Act. Not sure of the status of that work.

What I'm saying is that The Second Mile was the organization that Sandusky founded, and was the source of his victims. That is where the root is the issue lies.

What I am saying is that the energy behind investigating the Second Mile, is dwindling. Most likely due to the influence of Board members of that organization that happen to donate massively to both State & Federal gov't.

Penn State is probably culpable, but the root of the child abuse problem lies within The Second Mile, and it's VERY cozy relationship with State gov't.
