Douglas transitions from RB to CB

Not satisfied with the reps he was getting at a combine at the RB position, Avon (OH) High standout & Penn State commit Ross Douglas moved himself to CB. The rest is history.

  • Jesus. What's not to love about this kid???

  • That's a great article Steve. Excited to have this kid in the fold early. I think he would've attracted increasing interest nationally had he prolonged the process.

  • So it went like this:

"Hey I'm just hanging out... Man RBs get like no reps here at 7 on 7. Huh, I'll go goof around and play corner."

    Later on...

"Oh hey I just shut down three D1 players when I was joking around at aposition I have never played. Sweet."

    That's talent.

i've said it before but OSU posters on other sites i've asked this kid about have said he is really good and in a normal year he would already had an OSU offer.

Yep. On tBB a some OSU posters read the news and said "very underrated" and some UM fans wished they had offered.

Not the reactions I expected at all, so that's a very good sign.

tOSU had a very pedestrian class when UM took over. He knew that it taking a few years to get tOSU back wasn't going to cut it for Buckeye nation. He needed to load up that class with every four/five star kid he could.

I'm hoping he shot his entire wad with that class, and now he's handcuffed himself. If that class reaches it's potential, he'll be fiine. BUT, if that class doesn't reach its potential, he could have really put himself in a bind.

  • Maybe he can take classes all summer and enroll early early, like this fall?

I don't think he will redshirt. But just because he is an early enrollee doesn't mean he won't. Look at Jesse James this year, early enrollee who will probably redshirt.

  • This kid gets "it". He'll be successful long after his football career is over.

  • “I wanted to feel like I’m at home,” he said. “I wanted a hard-working atmosphere. A place where everyone comes to work. Just a big stadium, crazy football fans. A place where they’re all about football. The university is football first.”

I hope President Erickson didn't read that part. Would piss him off first thing in the morning.

He does get "it", I love this...

There was some thought that the scandal at Penn State could set the program back years when it came to recruiting, but Douglas said it had no effect on him.

“No not at all. That’s old news,” he said.

Benefit of a media transient society where even big stories become 'old' news within a month or two. As awful as it was, Joes death will deflect most of the widespread media scrutiny. Wrongfully, the matter died w him for a lot of people. But, in an odd way, it sped up the recovery process.

What you said is strange, sad, and 100% accurate. News and perceptions change so quickly with social media.

  • landing a highly touted kid from Ohio may have me more excited for this staff's ability to recruit than getting hack.. i hope we start to cherry pick more elite ohions like we did in the 80s and early 90s..

james is undersized and needs to put on weight before he can see the field.. ross is already in playing shape and he'll probably be our best corner once he steps on campus..

bingo , huge position of need, we may not have a choice but to play him as a freshman.

    Thus my first sentence was....

A lot of people on here assume just because a guy enrolls early means they wont redshirt. I was dismissing that notion.

If you saw the recent photo of James in the PSU weight room, many thought he was destined for OT not TE - much larger than the high school photos

Idk about that buddy. I'd say Hack is bigger. But don't get me wrong, Douglas's commitment greatly excited me too.
