Did the B1G just slam the door on you?

  • Hate the big ten, but it's easier travel to College Park and Piscataway for me.

Agreed. I think you will hear alot less of the PSU to ACC talk. I know one big reason I liked the ACC cause many of the games were within easy driving distance. Other than Ohio State, all the BIG trips are long. This now gives PSU 2 closer opponents that they will play and travel to every other year. I know I will definitely now be attending more road games with those two teams in the conference.

  • To the OP I think the most honest answer is that it cuts both ways. From a negative perspective the inclusion of UMD and Rutgers acts to legitimize both programs. This will make recruiting certain prospects in these areas more difficult, as PSU won't be the only game in town in terms of B1G Membership. That said I think this hurts programs like Pitt, Uconn, SU, UVA etc.

From a positive perspective PSU can sell kids and their parents on the idea of playing 2 games in their backyard while maintaining a manageable driving distance for home games for all 4. MD and NJ are strongholds of support for PSU, as alumni number in the thousands for both. Imagine the impression it will have when kids attend a Rutgers or UMD Home game and see thousands of PSU Supporters in the stands.

At the end of the day we'll still be Penn St. with or w/o sanctions. Our facilities are world class, Beaver Stadium is an iconic place, and Happy Valley is an awesome college town. IMO Bill Obrien is as good of a young coach as it gets, so I know he will be up to the challenge. As a PA resident it will be nice to have 2 teams other than OSU that are reasonable drives for me.
