Devin Thomas

  • Ventured out to the mid-penn final tonight, To watch the alma mater GA vs. CD. Game was suspended because Devin Thomas caught an oop and shattered the backboard. The game was being televised so look for it to be on ESPN tomorrow or 2 days from now. Seriously awesome to see and one of the coolest things I've ever seen at a sporting event live. Also for whatever reason LeSean McCoy was there for it.

  • Jealous. I've always wanted to see a shattered rim live. I got unlucky a couple years ago when I was one gym over at the Nike Peach Jam (AAU tourney).

  • I really wanted to land that kid, but I will trust Chambers judgment on the best players or his system. Just seemed like he could play down low better than most of the guys we were recruiting. Oh well.

That had to be cool to see. Never saw one of those in person.

The funny thing about college basketball is kids transfer all the time. Thomas is going to Wake, right? Very good school, but that program is total crap right now. He might get tired of losing and transfer after two years. I wouldn't be stunned if PSU would be seriously under consideration if Wake continues to suck.

Wake Forest is not very good right now, but they have a fairly good (for their standards) recruiting class coming in and Thomas is a decently rated prospect in that class. The jury is still out on their coach... so that would be the only reason I could ever see Thomas leaving... if they were to can Bzdelik after next season.

In reality I think that Bz gets this thing turned around next season with a true point guard and some rebounders (which Thomas would certainly qualify as) and the two ALL ACC caliber starters they already have and they are actually a surprise team next year. He was dealt a very tough hand of cards and with about 8 and a half true scholarship players this year because he had to clean up the program, I honestly see brighter things on the horizon for Wake. The chances that Thomas leaves are probably very slight, and if he's as hard a worker on the boards as he appears he will get instant minutes next year.

On the video, you can see him move from the grasp of his coach after the dunk and he snapped away and gave a short stare. Seconds later, he addresses the crowd.

A reaction after a glass-shattering dunk is a moment to remember and one's attitude cannot be judged entirely on a few seconds but, this in fact a brief window for analysis. It could be a rough coach-player relationship hitting the surface, youthful exuberance getting a bit of the best of him after a big life event, acting up for the network coverage, a hint of a larger attitude issue or its nothing at all. For the lack of knowing the people involved, I'll note it as some excitement that briefly got the better of the young man.

    Nice dunk.
