Dev Still?

Yeah I have seen that too, and I think he would fit well there. My point is, there are credible reasons that Worthy could be ahead of Still on some people's boards. I don't exactly agree, but for some to think it is ludicrous is just not right.

Sorry wasn't trying to take away from your point, just chiming in with what I heard and honestly I feel like that could be his best fit is a 5-tech in those types of systems.

Off topic slightly, but you mentioned your a Colts fan, are they planning on transitioning to Baltimore style system on defense?

same dude. bunkley's gone and we havent had much luck with FA. still is exactly what they need

Agreed. They need a clog in their front line on D. Still would be just that and hopefully have a long productive career.

I think Poe is incredibly overrated as well. Its a mix of everything is what I am trying to say. Obviously I preach to the wrong crowd here because this is Still's home.

A bunch of teams seem to feel the same way about Poe, but he's expected to go high because some personnel guys just can't see past the combine.

As for Still, ask Trent Richardson and the MNC O-Line of Alabama how good he is compared to the other DT's in this draft. I'm just concerned he won't be picked tonight. Not only potentially being the only one left in the Green Room, but having to come back tomorrow to get picked. That's the worst part about this new format, inviting kids that potentially could be left standing alone on national TV overnight.

  • This discussion took place a few months ago and everyone seemed to think he was a top 10-15 pick.

who said it was ludicrous? obviously there are other reasons to take a guy other than production, head to head, etc.. I was purely asking what those reasons might be as I havent read too much into it. maybe i didnt word it correctly and you read it differently

  • I did not see Worthy much, but I did see him against Wisconsin, and he was significantly more productive than Still was against them. Again, I can't speak about his play the rest of the year. But I can guarantee that teams have looked carefully at both of their performances against that particular team.

Yes and I am not sure how I feel about it yet. Obviously it will be a pure hybrid this year, but slowly and surely trying to go to a 34 heavy-hybrid. Won't happen this year though. Not with Dwight still there. I think they are seriously going to have Mathis at LB this year.

I don't like the new format for other reasons, but they invited 26 guys to the draft, more than one will not get picked on the first night, its not like when they only had 4 guys there.

  • I've read that scouts are worried about Still taking plays off and his technique.

Really? That's the first I've heard of that....

  • The reason Poe is so high is because he is the best NT in this years class and there are a lot of 3-4 teams that are in desperate need of a good NT. I too think that he is way overrated, but it won't be the last time someone is drafted a lot higher than what they should be because of a combine workout.

I think Still will be picked somewhere between 25-45. Wouldn't be suprised to see a team trade up for him in the late 1st/early 2nd. I too have heard that some teams think that he takes too many plays off and he didn't start to play up to his potentiall until last years bowl game and then this year.

I remember reading an article somewhere that there was a study done and it said there is no statistical connection between how good somebody does at the combine and their nfl success minus running backs... I might be misremembering a bit but that was the gist of the article will post it If I find it.

Thats what I've read too. Not technique or talent, but some inconsistency.

Giants just signed Shaun Rodgers from free agency so they won't go with a DT as their first pick. I would assume an OL or TE.

  • Just my opinion but... I don't see how you go from being #7 in some mock drafts to middle of the second round by looking at the same game footage. The media is saying its his character issues. Character issues with Devon Still? That's news to me. Or they are saying he is a one hit wonder (they obviously didn't watch the Florida bowl game). I think his fall is more media driven then what is actually going on in draft war rooms. Only better DT prospect is maybe Cox. Poe is a workout warrior and isn't a first round prospect. I think one team will be smart enough to get Still at the end of the first round.

it was reported that NE was trading the 31st pick.. we'll see if it still happens, but if Devon is a priority to any particular team, that may be the spot to move up to

I'm sure ther will be several Mike Mamula's drafted ahead of him.

Talking to a Univ. Tennessee co-worker of mine, who is pretty informed in recruiting & regional football.

Rumor is that Poe ended up at Memphis rather than the SEC, because he was not prepared for the academic rigor of SEC programs. According to him, as a HS Senior he was essentially illiterate.

I find this pretty strange. Several illiterate kids have played football in the SEC. Not prepared for the academic rigor of SEC programs? LOL. Vanderbilt is the exception, maybe Florida as well.

Yeah - my friend and I had the same conversation. Apparently Ole Miss, Miss State, etc couldn't go there for academic reasons.

We recognize the irony of the 'academic rigor' in the conference. According to him, his classroom challenges were that big.

Memphis can be a pretty tough place to grow up.

My sister lived in Memphis for 12 years and I was there many times. I can understand Memphis has its challenges in places. Michael Oher was a Memphis product.

Your friend is delusional regarding the academic rigors and standards in place at SEC schools for football and hoops players. If you can play football and breathe air, you get into almost every one of them.
