The governor said the eye of the storm will be over State College around 2 pm tomorrow.

By then, the winds will have died down significantly. The worst will be tonight, no doubt.

  • Some amazing pictures from all around the coast.

    Welcome to UP!

I was already done for the day when they cancelled classes today, so I really missed out.

I say we make the BOT walk across campus in the storm and then see if they want to have classes.Maybe we could get Emmert to walk with them and see if falling trees and hurricane winds are really safe for the students pray

Used to pizz me off when they held classes on days of severe weather. I was a commuter from Bellefonte when I went to UP. I think the idiots who make the call assume no one has to commute and everyone can just walk to class from their dorm rooms and apartments in State College.

PSU rarely if ever cancels classes unless its damn near Armageddon out.

Ya I have an exam at 2:30 tomorrow and I have to walk from my apartment by Canyon Pizza all the way up to Ford Building which is above Park Ave.

GV Grad Campus was closed as of yesterday morning. Adjunct Grad Profs make PSU a lot more reasonable.

  • FWIW...most schools in the Cleveland area are off tomorrow. We are getting 40-50 mph winds with gusts into the 60s. Just hoping my car survives the night...

It's only the UP campus that refuses to shut down. All the other ones use common sense. I'm convinced it's because they don't want to have to pay the majority of their employees for a day of work. upset

Ah, that is terrible... evacuate how??? isn't everything flooded out?

I swear, I will never live near the coast again. I sold my house down in the Hampton Roads area just in time to miss that hurricane they got hit with a few years ago. It flooded out practically the whole damn area. That was always a fear of mine.

When I was there campus was shut down one day. It was Spring of 2007 we got over a foot of snow early in the morning.

Last I checked Altoona closed today after 12 through tomorrow. I can't imagine the weather can be all that different to close there, but not UP.

I wouldn't be surprised if professors end up cancelling classes themselves if the school won't. I had a few profs cancel class 2 years ago when we had an ice storm.

I don't know how they're doing it, but they're trying to take them to other hospitals. Hopefully they find ways.

I'm hoping the National Guard is there to assist. I'm sure they are.

  • NY Scanner ‏@NYScanner
Brooklyn: FDNY is enroute to Coney Island Hospital for a reported fire on the third floor with a heavy smoke condition.

And it sounds like they don't think they can get there because of the flooding.

What a horribly sick situation to be in. Stuck in a burning building with no help because you're surrounded by water.

  • And also sorry to you Delaware folk for hijacking your thread and turning it into an all-purpose hurricane thread, but I thought it made more sense to keep all this information in one place.

  • How did everyone fare yesterday and last night? NEPA seems to have been spared compared to many other areas. No damage to our home or anywhere in our neighborhood, and never lost electricity. Hope everyone else here can say the same.

If you can handle it, here are some pictures of the damage at my house. You guys may want to tell your kids to leave the room first...

  • Some houses in our neighborhood lost shingles and pieces of siding. Our house is good to go though. No damage on the outside. We never lost power at all. The lights just flickered a few times. No water in our basement. Our dog was all about going outside to brave the wind and rain.
