I don't really understand the rationale behind this statement. Danny O'Brien was extra icing that could have come out of this deal. I would have loved to see him come to PSU and compete for the starting job. But that's just it... He would have had to compete against guys who have already started and have connections with teammates, etc. Wisconsin offers him basically the opportunity to be guaranteed the starting job.

We have an offensive minded coach who specializes in working with QB's. That in itself is a major upgrade from what we had before. Coaching alone could really help one of the candidates become a "good" QB and lead this offense. What Danny O'Brien offered was a kid with two years eligibility remaining who had at times excelled in a complex Pro-style offense under the coaching of one of Bill O'Brien's former mentors. It was not that long ago that we were worried about what Coach we would get... now people are upset that we didn't get a transfer QB.

Underneath the excitement of Spring football and the verbal commitments there is still this ugly Sandusky situation brewing. I myself have been overjoyed by the early recruiting success. But we are not going to get every kid we set out to get. The old stand-by statement of "Only worry about the kids that you get, not the ones you don't" is extremely applicable. Those that thought that every offer that we extended to kids were going to be reciprocated by undying loyalty is a little delusional. These kids owe nothing to the fans of any school. They make the best decisions for themselves and their families. For all the negativity surrounding this program to this day, we are as a program looking and doing great.

I'll be honest: this one hurts. I thought he was coming here and he would have helped a great deal. Hopefully, someone shows the aptitude to pick up the offense quickly. Based on previous observations, I have my doubt on the in-house guys.

I can't wait for the "this would have never happened when JoePa was coach" or "Big Red would have sealed the deal" post.

I would implore Danny to watch the Wisconsin vs PSU game from last year, and then ask him why this decision was even debatable.
