DOB on campus today??

  • Domo said...

If we get DOB, I wonder what happens to Bolden and MM? Maybe we gain some ships if Bolden departs and MM loses his.

I don't think there is any reason to take away MM's scholarship. He is a senior and DOB would probably get Oakman's open spot. Besides, MM would be a good back up to have biggrin

Could be wrong but they would have to leave to get schollies back think you can only relieve if they have academic or team violation problems.

Not if you were a walkon, then they are year by year.

EDIT - so in the "watch what they do, not what they say" categogy - I think its a very good sign Wisky is rumored to be going with that Kansas transfer, and then this weekend DOB is in Happy Valley. From my vantage point, it looks good for us.

Absolutely!! This is probably a + 2 or 3 wins acquisition for this season if we land him.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

  • If he visited with his mother - which is a rumor floating . . . . ..

    . . . .. . Always a great sign anytime a target visits with his mother.

BOB knows the difference between a proven commodity and a kid who hasn't been able to clean up his act enough to get on the field.

Exactly ... how can anyone write something of this nature when talking about Paul Jones.

Yes, Bleacher Report is a joke and have no idea Kevin McGuire posts on there as he is a pretty credible guy. Still, I do not see a problem with Jones stopping O'Brien. O'Brien wins the job if he comes without a doubt IMHO. The kid might not have the physical tools that wow you, but I am sure he has the smarts (or he would not even be in this position) to grasp more than any of our current QBs (minus Bench) with less practice time. The head between the shoulder is important.

Also, the fact that he did pretty well as a freshmen in Friegen's offense prob. means something as I am sure O'Brien has some of the same concepts as Friegen.

  • If PJ is still borderline eligible, then this is a no-brainer, you gotta go after O'Brien full bore. MM and RB have been somewhat mediocre. PJ hasn't played a single snap yet. PSU will want to red shirt Bench to get him ready. Hack won't be ready as a true freshman. If RB doesn't win the starting position this spring, he could still transfer this summer. Therefore I believe that PSU will want to bring in O'Brien to obtain a quality competition for starting QB for the next two years to mitigate potential academic and ego problems.

  • Perhaps Friegen has been working the lines behind the scenes.

  • PJ has nothing to do with O'Brien. O'Brien has the potential to be an all-league QB in year one, and maybe better in year two. PJ isn't beating him out.

Jones will be a rsSO this year. With O'Brien in the fold, that means he has time to develop and maybe have a shot at starting for a year after O'Brien leaves. At the least, he'll be able to develop and hopefully add depth to the roster.

With O'Brien, MM is the backup, and the potential exists for Bolden to actually redshirt, with Jones being the #3. It'll be up to BOB to determine if it's worth giving Bolden more time, but it opens up the possibility. Frankly, the more options BOB can create for the post-DOB era the better IMO. Hack and Bench may be ready, but they might not be. If he can get a serviceable year out of Bolden or Jones it would be well worth it to bring these guys along over the next few years.

Somewhat mediocre and MM and Bolden can't be in the same sentence!!

Not only that, but their writing is also sub-standard. Not much value in Bleacher Report.

I hate how BleacherReport has to turn everything into a list, and then to top it off, make you click the "Next" button until your arm falls off. Then if you want to go back to where you originally were, you need to hit back 1000s times (assuming you did not open a new tab). F Bleacher Report

i used to ike bleacher report till it exploded with random people posting. get a lot of incorrect info, no back up for random rumors, and mainly just wrong opinions...saw one that was talking about penn state lineman going for spots this year, no mention of Donovan smith...if you don't include a 6-7 320 pound red shirt freshman who i believe played in the u.s. army game...then i have no respect for your opinion
