Current Scholarship Count on Roster

  • I am only counting the players that came in on scholarship, I realize players like McGloin, Della Valle earned schollies but not counting those, we currently have 66 of recruited scholarship players and two of them (Kerner and Arcidiacono) are out for the year

Our walk-on count will go from about 30 to 45, so hopefully we can find more McGloin's, Della Valle, Keiser out of that bunch.

Just food for thought - the key is getting good walk-ons for depth and practice with a few turning into starters

  • Walk-on's might like PSU in that they can play for a legendary program and have a chance to see the field and contribute. But, the preferred walk on types might not like PSU in that there is less chance to earn a scholly. With so few to dole out, less kids will be granted a scholly in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years on campus after proving their worth. I think that over this 4 year span we can still get better recruits than the Minny's and Indy's of the world. If we can get kids that can compete, it will be up to BOB and staff to coach them up to beat the Wisc, Iowa, and MSU of the world on a pretty regular clip. OSU and scUM will have better athletes on the field until 2019 or so. But with a new S and C program, and if we can hold onto BOB and the staff, I think we match up very well to stay in that top teir of the Legends Div pretty much annually, even during these lean probation years.

I really fear that an NFL team gets BOB in the next 2-3 years.

yes and no, with the 15 scholarship per year limit there will still be just as much opportunity as always to earn a schollie - which is hard to do before or after sanctions

I think the playing time and exposure - i am optimistic to get better quality walk ons ..time will tell

I think we are safe with BOB for the next 2-3 years but if, and I hope we do, continue to win he will be hard to keep. With that said, it will be easier to hire a "known" coach next go around because the sanctions will be all but gone. I think BOB was the right hire for the right time, at the time I didn't think that, and if he leaves I will always be thankful for his leadership during this time and will not begrudge him if he does leave after 4-5 years.

Doesn't his contract last for 10 total years now that it was extended due to sanctions?

That was my understanding also. I believe there's a hefty buyout ($9M?) if he leaves early.

Yep...I think it's at 9 years now, and I also heard the buyout was $9M.

Doesn't he make like $1.2 million a year? I'f so, that buyout is a huge part of his contract.
