Curious of everyones opinion

  • I'm curious to know what everybody's opinion is on these 2 questions.

    1. What will make the BOB hire a success in YOUR opinion? I am referring to on the field and in recruiting,

    2. How long will YOU give him to accomplish it?

Try to fathom the hypocrisy of a Government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured .but not prove they're a citizen

  • I give him 5 years bc the last two recruiting classes are not up to par with what they need to be.....during his tenure he needs to be .500 vs. OSU

  • top 20 class in 2013.
top 15 classes in 2014 and beyond while securing the key PA recruits as well as our normal area but also finding some stars from non-traditional areas like GA, FLA, TX, or CA

Next season, he gets a pass but I expect 7-9 wins. I expect 9-12 wins on a yearly basis with a B1G championship appearance every few years.

Bowl wins and some BCS bowl appearances.

I have HIGH expectations as this is PSU and we all should have high expectations.

  • 1. More than on the field and in recruiting first of all. And Not something I can depict in 'numbers'. Highly competitive. Continued strong Defenses. Better offense. Back to special teams being a priority. Basically a strong overall football team competing for Big Ten titles first, and some of the next level as well.

Bridging the gap cant be understated either. From a Legend of the game, to leading in a new direction which is needed, but also keeping that which made us who we are as a program. Dont want all the traditions to go out the window, and so far he seems like he will try and balance that. Subjective as to what should or shouldnt stay really.

    2. 5 years. Gotta a least have a full year with YOUR class being Seniors iyam.

Answer B for number 2: This season if the Mayan's were correct :-D

I thought about this before and i'm not quite sure how to answer.

If BOB wins a B1G championship in his first 4 seasons, i would call that a success.

I really just want PSU to be "nationally" relevant again, and that starts by winning multiple conference titles and BCS games.

  • He'd be a success if:

    1) He has a better than 0.500 record vs. top 25 teams.
    2) Our players show progress through the season and our QBs improve with experience.
    3) Make the Big Ten title game about 50% of the time.
    4) Make a BCS game once every 3-4 years.
    5) Top 15 recruiting classes starting in 2014 (I'd be happy with top 25 this year with the scandal lingering)

I'd give him 3 years to get the roster he wants...

  • I want to do more than beat the teams we're supposed to.... 2 div championships in 5 years is the right direction

If he can get the team to a good bowl game in 2012 and 2013 and win a B1G Championship in 2014. Needs to land a top 10 recruiting class next year. I think he'll be fine.

  • Its tough to determine what success looks like. I think failure will be much more obvious to identify.. Now how long I give him to prove himself is different.. I will give him 1 and a half seasons of unwavering support to prove himself.. I think by the halfway point of the 2013 season we should have an idea of which direction the program is heading imo..

  • I expect around 10 wins a year, but to actually feel like we have a chance of winning the conference going into every year. I'll give him 2 gimme years to fix the mistakes of the old staff.

You are more optimistic than me. I'd expect more like 8-4 or 7-5 for his first year. Hopefully the QB play is fixable with new coaching...
    I'd hope for 9-10 wins year 2...

Not sure how that's really different. I'm saying I want 10 wins a year starting in year 3. I think 7-8 wins next year and 9 the following, hence the two gimmes.

    PSUfan28

  • In recruiting: Avg a top 15 class or better/
On the field: 10+ wins in 3 out of 5 years and one Big Ten championship or two Big Ten championship appearances over that time. Also, .500 against top 25 teams.

    2. All depends on where his recruiting classes rank.........

  • 1. Consistently achieves the 80% wins/80% graduation rate.

    2. I expect to see his system in place by year three, but those goals can be attained sooner.

I pretty much agree with this, although I think mid-2014 will be a more accurate inflection point. If the players can grasp the new offense, I actually think we could overachieve this upcoming season based on the enthusiasm of the new regime and opposing coaches not having film on PSU's new schemes. But by that same token, I would expect that we take a step back in 2013 as the new coach buzz wears off and we start to feel the affects of the gaps in recent recruiting classes. But by 2014 the players BOB recruited should start to emerge and his system should be firmly entrenched, so we'll know which direction the program is headed.

    Cambria Nittany

  • 1. 9-10 wins per year (won't hold it against him for a seven win team in 2012 - not his fault).
    2. Maintain high graduation rate
    3. Increased development of players
    4. .500 against top 15 opponents
    5. I'm not going to put anything regarding class rankings because that is a bit much. Have the ability to bring in the best recruits possible regardless where they are from and develop them into contributors, not bench sitters.

1a. Winning Big Ten championships (1 in the first five years) b. recruiting playmakers that can win and graduate

    2. He has five years. If it is painfully obvious he does not have what it takes to get the job the done after three years, you cut the chord then. Otherwise, I give him five.

    POV

  • 32 wins his first 3 years
    1 Leaders division championship
A top 10 recruiting class the next 2 years
A top QB in this class.

Preseason top 5 going into year 4.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

    psu2013

  • To add on, it would be nice if they could develop some skill players on either side of the ball. Maybe have a safety or wide receiver drafted in the first round. Not that it really matters, but it would be nice.

    1. Gut feel -- And I don't think of "success" in this case as a boolean choice. It's a continuum. Some things that will probably be factored in though are wins (obviously), big wins, butts in the seats, and excitement of the product)
    2. Depends on where he is on the continuum.

32 wins his first 3 years 1 Leaders division championship A top 10 recruiting class the next 2 years A top QB in this class.

Preseason top 5 going into year 4.

    I agree.

I'm sorry but I don't believe in the 9-12 wins a season thing.

BOB will be a success if:

1.PSU regains its exposure as a competitive team for the national championship every 3-4 years.

    2. Is a competitor for the B16 championship EVERY year i.e. a favorite to win the division
    3. Consistently puts out high graduation rates
    4. Locks off PA, NJ, and Maryland, and consistently lands the top 3-7 recruits in PA on a yearly basis.

Penn State is a powerhouse football program, that ranks in the top 10 wins of any school of all time. We should always be in the top 10 football programs on a yearly basis, simple as that.

I'll give you my general expectations for the program:

Double digit wins on an almost yearly basis.
    Average a Big10 Championship every 2 or 3 years.
BCS Bowl game at least every other year.
Top 10 rated recruiting classes 75% of the time.
    National Championships

BOB needs to make significant improvements in recruiting and on field performance in the next couple years. If he doesn't I want to make a change sooner, rather than later. It's hard to put an exact time table on it but we will know if he is the guy in the next 2-5 years. Let's hope he doesn't get the ED D treatment. BOB needs to have success to keep his job.

He better not get the Ed D treatment. Ed D got extra time, I think, because he came into a situation with beyond bare cupboards. BO'B's not taking over a team that is exactly stacked, but there's a solid core of players for him to work with and grow.
